Can anybody point me to a post or article that may be able to help?

I have been playing online poker for about 3 years and started on the playmoney sng tables on the old WPT site before it was shut down.

After it shut down I transferred to the FT site and discovered their mtt freerolls which I have been playing constantly for about 2 years.

I love the mtt's and managed to get my game to the point where I was cashing out in a freeroll once or twice a week but was unable (through a lack of experience) to transfer my success through to the real money tables.

In order to get more experience in the real money mtt's I made a small deposit but found myself playing in the real money cash games for the first time ever in order to get some of my deposit bonus.

Needless to say I eventually lost my deposit but to make matters worse I checked my online rankings and I am now rated as totally hopeless, worse than the lowest of calling stations (woe is me:eek: ) I have that in the back of my mind whenever I play in any mtt.

My problem is that I have lost my mtt mojo.

I am in the depths of a loooong losing streak and no matter how I try to play I cannot get my former game back.

I don't have to start learning again from scratch do I?

If someone could help it would be much appreciated as a cash out of as little as $75.00 would bring my ROI back to black and give me peace of mind as well as some stake money.

MTT's are hard to cash, go back to sng's With $5 BR, don't play above $5, play very tight, only premium hands, never chase.

well, a hand gun might do he trick, tkae you out of your visible misery.
on a serious note, perhaps you should just chill for a few days, even a week. these tourneys arent going anywhere. and downswings are a part in every poker player's life, its inevidable to keep winning.
as long as you dont go on tilt, making stupid decisions out of anger, youll be fine. dont deposit anymore money until you feel youve gotten out of this slump. you dont have to deposit any afterwards, but i certainly wouldnt take any chances during a cold spell. always try to make your bad days hurt to a minimum and your good days as successfull as possible. perhaps try and identify your weaknesses and stregths in your game and come up with a plan that suits your personal style of play.
best of luck you 2.
p.s think about it this way, good things dont last forever, but neither do bad ones.

Thanks for your help guys.

As the 4 of you have taken the time to offer suggestions I wll take the time to reply to all of them in turn.

ballboy75 - lol the handgun is out, I am desperate but I am not on THAT much of a tilt (yet). I have started and will continue to try and identify my game weaknesses and strengths though as I try and come up with a plan that suits my style of play as I discuss below.

LeanAndMean - Your suggestion really made me sit up and think! Go back to the game that has bought me undone? When I think about my games weaknesses and strengths I realise now, that deep down, I felt slightly out of my depth playing the sng (cash games). I truly want to become a better player and realise I must go back, but that will have to wait because I agree with what ballboy75 said and refuse to make another deposit at this time. I will be trying to play a tighter game while attempting to freeroll myself out of this slump.

Whoopwhoop - Yes!! My way of thinking entirely!! Ever since I hurt my back and discovered poker I have become totally adicthead! lol, I sure hope my Mrs doesn't fully realise what has happened. She already thinks I am silly because I have started to get up in the middle of the night on the weekends to play (the best freerolls start at about primetime USA/canada time - the middle of the night here in Australia) Anyway with my bad back I have lots of time to freeroll my way out of this slump.

kidkvn01 - I think you may be right.

Also, while I was playing the sng's and chasing the bonus $ I somehow developed the habit of calling more often which really sux as it allows the other players to draw out on me.

I had gone back to basics and looked at a few of the strategy articles on this forum and when I clicked on your link above I found this:

https://www.cardschat.com/folding-good-hands.php - "pick a battle of our own choosing and fight on our terms rather than our opponent’s." - This is really good advice and is something that I stopped doing on the sng's as well, it is good for me simply because I actually do attempt to use the somatic markers that I have mentioned here:

https://www.cardschat.com/forum/general-poker-13/oldest-poker-software-160413/

and my game may be on the upswing already because I have been abused and sworn at twice in different tournaments since I wrote this post.

I am not sure if my style of play should be changed dramatically but all in all I feel that simply writing a forum post such as this will help with the process of improving my poker skills and if you guys don't mind I will get back to you in a few weeks to let you know how I am going.

Yeah, I'd say go back to 1/2 table SnGs. If you start cashing regularly, start playing one small SnG and one low-buy-in MTT--that way, if you don't cash in the MTT (which the chances are much smaller and it won't happen nearly as often), you still might cash in the SnG and you'll feel okay. Slowly ween yourself back into just MTT's (and maybe play two micro MTT's at the same time so you can maybe cash in one).
