Iv been playing poker for about 3 months online and been having good success money wise -
on the one hand I love playing poker, Its fun addicting and I cant stop thinking about it!

on the other hand its starting to disrupt my live
Girlfreind problems / job problems
and even the course Im taking as a gym instructer are very angry with my recent absence ,
Im now starting to really feel its taking over my life, every second I can I play online poker!
if I could I would play 24/7 and wouldnt sleep haha!

My question is this - Were you also like this when you first started and it calms down after a while, or im just freaking crazy?!!!!!! :afraid:
how were you guys when you first started playing (first couple of months)

I love the title of this tread, when i read it i heard "hi alex!!!!" in my ears. I started playin serious last november and sometimes i think that when im home im not feel like doing anything that is not related to poker, yesterday i came home from 12 houra shift at work, sat in front of computer and started playing, this mourning i woke up played till 6pm, with brakes and went to 12 hours night shift, now im at work, cant play but im on CC whole time...

Sometimes i think of ace on the river, if you didnt read it, at least read dedicated to, remember when i read it to my wife she start crying, i almost have tears in my eyes whenever i think of it or whenever talk about it. Dont let poker affect your social life and dont justify it with trying to make life better.

I think it's hard to say but poker makes one independent in making decisions because you blindly devoted to play and forget many other things that are important like family.

It is an addicting habit. However you cant let it rule your life. A lot of people think that they are trying to make money so it is a good thing. It takes a while to be a winning player and chances are if you are new to it you arent cashing all the time. The best way to becoming a winning player is to practice and play within your means.

I played a lot when I first started years ago. I lost a lot of money when I started out. I had some big wins about 7 or 8 years ago. A couple 10k wins playing 5/10. However the game was a lot different then than it is now. Take it slow and enjoy. Dont ignore the people around you to play poker. A win isn't as sweet if you are all by yourself.

pokerholic! ive never heard that one before (somehow) so cliche! lol

yea alex on a serious note dude,

it sounds like you may have an obsessions brewing and you may need to take a step back and evaluate your life on a deeper level think about whats most important and the consequences of your actions involving work , gilrfriends and family/friends. Are you prepared to lose what you have ? for poker
because it wont bring you happiness, money only takes you so far in life until one day you think... Damnn.

Also their is a huge risk involved you probably need to step up to high stakes to make solely a livable poker income and you have no idea whats lurking out there in the medium to high stake grinding.

its easier said than done and im telling you from experience.
I was exactly like you are right now and I had a few reality checks and
I learnt the importance of happiness in life.

if your not complete you will never fill the gap firstly you want be happy and secondly you wont be playing your best poker

Been there, done that. When I started playing, I was exactly like you.
It took me a few years to realize that is very difficult to handle with the poker psychology. Now, I'm a lot better and don't put much pressure on myself anymore, I only play for fun and when I have free time. I think that's what you should do, play only when you on your free time and if you start to have good wins, you can think to invest more time on poker.
