Phil Hellmuth gets Penalized

Mortis,

Everyone knows sooner or later Phil is going to go on "tilt" because someone takes a hand away from him that he thought he should have won. I personally like the guy while most people hate him. However, no one can argue with the number of titles he has won and the amount of money he has won playing poker.:D

Penalized for calling someone an idiot? That's not even a real insult. I bet he was wanting to take it back, and say something worse. If you are going to get penalized, at least make it worthwhile.

Well, I can't stand it when Helmuth acts like thatt, but given the way Scotty acted at the HORSE event without drawing a penalty it seems a little unfair to punish Phil for this.

... given the way Scotty acted at the HORSE event without drawing a penalty ...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought about this.

If we use Scotty's free ride as a guideline for penalizing bad behavior, any insult that doesn't draw blood or result in broken bones is fair game.

My preference is to watch poker and not meltdowns.

If the tournament officials were consistent in enforcing the rules from the beginning, it would have set the tone for the whole wsop season. A few high profile penalties early on and a zero tolerance policy going forward would have made all the difference in the world.

Putting Scotty on the sidelines on the final HORSE table would have set the tone for the rest of the current year and all future WSOPs. In my opinoin, demonstrating the enforcement of the rules on CNN would add credibility to the tournament.

None of this would have prevented the Helmuthish antics in this video but, let's face it. Phil's whining is as much a part of his trademark as his winning.

He thinks like many pros do. That the rules do not apply to them. Wrong!

I can fully empathize with Phil. I love when he blows up after losing to a suckout. How many of us have been sucked out on and wanted to ring the other player's neck for calling the preflop raise w/ "garbage" lol.

You're 100% right. I remember a couple of years ago, they penalized an older gentleman (I don't think he was a pro) for dropping the F-bomb.

Scotty was cussing up a storm and discussing his hand the whole time. In yesterday's episode of the WSOP 2008 Main Event, they even warned Chuck Liddell about discussing his hand before he showed it.

A couple years ago they penalized Matusow for 10 minutes for an F bomb, then he said something like WTF?? 10 more minutes...then he said F you....10 more minutes.

Swearing in and of itself is no longer prohibited in the WSOP tho.

I had no idea that you could get penalized for calling someone an idiot. I think Phil is funny to watch and I think he is one of the best the game has.

I think it's right you got penalized when you are calling someone an idiot. You must not be agressive in talking but in playing. Hellmuth always wants to be in the spotlights, even when he's playing worse...

I agree with penalizing insults as well as rude dialog. But, then I've always been courteous. We have observed that many of today's kids have placed little interest or value in courtesy. With the TV poker shows "promoting" rudeness I can comprehend why this takes place.

We have a standard 10 minute penalty for our home game. This has cleaned up the comments at the tables to the point even your kids can watch.

His strategy seems to work despite the love/hate relationship her has going on. Very funny video.

Phil is so entertaining! I do not like the fact that everybody has bone to pick with though. For example, Steve Danamein (spelled that one wrong) at the TOC. I felt embarrassed just watching that debockle. Overall i do Not think this is good for poker.
