The main question I want to ask you guys is:

How important do you think maintaining a healthy lifestyle is to becoming a successful poker player?

The reason I ask this is because after many years of watching some of the top players on t.v. and on the Internet, I have noticed that most of the really successful ones are fairly slim/athlete guys. Guys that start on the Internet and turn live pro often hire a personal trainer right away. I have never seen a top pro, live or online, be a huge/unhealthy person (300 lbs big).

I myself have always been active in sports and I have an athlete body so I don't need to worry too much (yet), but I wonder how badly my poker would be affected if all of a sudden I gained 50-100 lbs...

So what do you guys think?

health is vital important than any other stuff in life.
so
answer your question, in my view.
first needs to have a healthy life, then second to be success in poker , sports, career. etc.

there is a very bad example here,
the inborn genius -- Stu Ungar
he was superior good during his poker career, but he died early cos of drugs , and bad lifestyle -- way of living.

so without life, no matter how many brackets you had earned, it is all Zero!

I think health and poker luck don't go hand in hand, but surely when you are in bad shape and can't really concentrate it will decrease your poker skill. So be healthy and try some matches then, good luck.

I think being fit and do exercise is very important thing no matter what you do for living. A person with a healthy body, and in shape will play a much better poker and will be able to play focused much more time than a unfit person.

If you are healthy, it might help with less distractions and possibly a more positive outlook but what about what poker does to your health? Sitting on your ass for hours and hours, stress, addictive behavior, etc etc. Maybe if you're a fat-ass, quiting playing poker might be the healthy move. :D

I think health is vitally important to a poker player in both the online poker World Poker Live or because the health of a poker player is to sit 8-10 hours on a chair that's where it is shown Player is healthy that enters not despair if you need anything but a Player who has a poor diet has a health pesima Can not think endure so much time sitting in one Place.

I personally believe that Vital Health First one and then the Poker :D:)

I don't know about anyone else, but I sure don't think clearly when stuffed full of processed junk after having not worked out for days.

ASICS (anima sana in corpore sano) = a sound mind in a sound body

I agree that physical fitness tends to improve one's performance in all endeavours even purely intellectual ones.

Apparently, we also need to be concerned about the amount of time that we spend sitting each day regardless of how physically fit we are, though. The British Journal of Sports Medicine recently published a study that shows that prolonged sitting (four hours or more per day) increases a person's risk for diabetes and cardivascular disease. I guess it follows that it may be a good idea to get up from the poker table regularly and walk around a bit.

I read that too, but I can't help but wonder if there are other factors. Like close-quarters, overheated, cubicle-cluttered buildings exposing desk-bound workers to more pollutants than outside work or work in larger buildings, such as warehouses or even restaraunts.
