I've read and talked to a bunch of very successful players/pros who cite heads up as where they reallly got to work on their game/improve as players.

I don't get it. When I'm heads up (ie when I got deep in a mtt or sng)..I'm lost..its more of a crapshoot. Basically catch some hand and shove. Ranges are all skewed (can't possibly play the same ranges you do FR)..aggression everywhere (gotta float or 3bet really light to survive)and I guess due to that you're forced to play a totally diff game.

Does it really help your game? Anyone specialize in HU..any tips on where to get started or any good things to read?

Its all about the stack size. Its all how deep you are.

If you are HU in a tourney, lots of times you can be playing with less than 15bb each, generally being overly aggressive is the only way to play, because by the time your opponent adjusts its usually too late.

IF you are playing a HU cash game, 250bb deep each , its a different game, lots more options are open you you.

What your opponent has means a lot more than what you have.

Doubt they're referring to bein' SS'd & HU.
When you're playing MTT's (& deep) most of the hands you'll be playing will be 'heads-up' vs. one other player (hence how/why getting in some experience playing HU will/can help out your tournament game (or any game)).

Gotcha. Yeah deep obviously big difference from the HU I'm used to (I'm only HU at end of sng or. MTT with insane blinds...never join a strictly HU game).

Probably gonna be way out of my element initially till I figure out strength of hand villains are willing to commit to (obviously much lighter than FR?). Ill give it a shot..maybe play several buyins lower than what I do FR?

Most of the time neither of you have anything, hence the aggression.Try playing a few hundred HU SnG at micros jsut to get used to hand rages and stuff.
