Head's up play

Just finished my first week of playing the on-line tourneys, have played strictly on the cash tables until now. My question is do you find finally playing heads-up a let down? You use skill (I hope), luck, and strategy to make it to the final two and then it seems to be mostly pure luck. While I'm happy I made it to the final two, I usually feel a let down as now it's down to whether I can catch 2 OK cards when the opponents cards are OK but just a bit weaker. Last night I finished 2nd on a $15, 3 table sit & go and the heads up match was boring. After about 15 consecutive folds by each of us (both playing very tight), he went all-in, I had A-6s so I figured why not. Turned out he had A-9o and I lost. Just wondering how all of you feel about this...

I agree when it comes down to heads up after 5 or 6 hours of play it mostly comes down to luck.Its very hard to get a read on someone online>it becomes throw all your chips in the middle and pray

I haver to say I would have done the same. A 6s is a pretty good hand heads up. Also like minet said you can't get a read on them because it is online poker. But congrats on 2nd place and hopefully you will get 1st place next time.:burnout:

I hear what you are saying. Recently I did the same thing, down to 2 of us. It was like a tennis match for the longest while. What does he have and what do I have. Were we both dealt rags? Is he holding a face card, 2 face cards? I had Pocket AA's and boy do I hope he calls all-in, to surprise he folds before the flop. After the long match we finally go both all-in, went through like 2 and 1/2 levels. I lost but I do admit it is fun and "luck" of the draw when the all-in gun fires between the both of 2 parties.

one thing i remind myself when playing heads up is the obvious---there is only two of you---mediocre starting hands increase in value big time--i like to play very aggressive . also i like to change my play quite a bit. maybe check your strong hand to your opponent and let him make a move

the most important skill u need in heads up is reading your opponents hands and picking up on his betting patterns.

Ahhhh you should have a feel for how your opponent plays by the time you get heads up. It really all depends on the blind level though if it a good percentage of your chips then you will play extremely loose and it will seem alot like luck.
