Just wanted to throw this out there, has anyone ever, after knocking someone out of a tournament, particularly after a very bad beat in their favor, apologized for winning? Me, I unashamedly take the hard line on it. I don't rub it in someone's face, but I feel that elements that lead to that sort of situation are an inescapable part of the game and if you can't handle it, don't bother showing up at the table.

Although come to think of it, people who do that sort of thing might be apologizing for not playing well more than beating someone. Is this statement totally out there or is there any truth to it, you guys think?

I've apologized to close friends in CC league games, but as far as apologizing to any random person in a random game... Hell no!

I busted a guy in a $65 tourney at Winstar KK>AA, and said "sorry man". He 3-bet a ridiculous amount so I thought he might have aces, but I said "I'm not good enough to fold this" (not in a $65 tourney anyway) and went with it.

I hit my king on the turn and he was pissed.

I think it's best not to say anything though because "sorry" kind of means "sorry, not sorry".

I apologize to rivals mainly for interrupting their senior starting hands. For example if my opponent goes to a pair of kings, and I interrupt his hand with two pairs

Sometimes on rare occasions in a CC game I will apologise if I misread a situation, get it in bad, and come out on top. But it does depend on a lot of things, such as if I am even paying any attention to the chat or table dynamics...

For the record, the main reason for apologising is to recognise that they outplayed me. I understand that no one deserves to win anything short-term in poker and 55-95% is still only 55-95%. But yeah, if they 3-bet and I have read it as weakness instead of strength and accidentally knocked them out then it is my bad really...

Now THAT'S worth apologizing for. Timing out AFK is a whole other situation and I'd find it REFRESHING when people actually apologize for that, I really think they should and they hardly ever do!

I have never apologized. This may hurt a man even more. As the saying goes - you can add fuel to the fire.

To be completely honest, I will say sorry for a suck out on the river, although, I really am NOT! I have been beat by a bad beat/ suck out SOOO many times its disgusting! So in all reality, I will apologize out loud (in chat) however I am so happy inside I can hardly take it! Saying Im sorry only offers the other player an image of me being a "nice" player... and when you are on the same table with that same person you sucked out on, they may treat you a bit different. It HAS happened to me where I did apologiez for a abd beat, only to later that day sit at a table with that exact player. He has me beat and I was pot committed, and low and behold, he checked it down to me to be nice... Although, I am sure he is one in a BILLION as not many other players have a heart when $ is on the line!

I guess different people have different reactions to that. But if you're ever in a game with me it's more like what you should do to try to piss me off and tilt me because I feel it's really hypocritical. XD Btw this is a really good discussion so far! ^_^

Yes, knocking men out of tournaments I have said sorry straight up, good game, thanks for playing, see ya next time, hard luck, better luck next time, so sorry, have fun, have a nice day and talk to you later.
Online games where I can't see the men I almost never will say anything though.

I dont see any logical reason for that, unless i am playing live poker with friends. Bad beats happens all the time for both sides and no one says apologize to me. xD

No, I never apologize for winning. It hard enough not to get up and do a happy dance after sucking out on a bad call. An apology would be totally insincere, and that's how I take it when someone else does it.

I have to apologize every time I play a CC Freeroll.

At least once during the tourney I will win from behind.
