I've managed to build up a small bankroll, but I'm quite happy playing the $1 SnG's, Daily Dollar and other $1 tournaments. Even though I have enough to play several levels higher....I'm content finishing ITM where I'm at and taking down the occasional win.

Anyone ever do that? Not moving up even though you have the BR to do so.

Absolutely. I think too many players have sort of a polarized view of poker where they either want to play a ton and try to eventually play full time for a living, or admit they just play for fun and donk around....

why not play at super low limits, ocasionally, and take it seriously. Now you have a hobby that is tons of fun, and lucrative...
That's the way I view it. Never move up unless you want to.

Do you ever play higher? I was wondering if you noticed that the $5.00 and $10.00 players were a lot better than the $1.00 players?

I'm a low roller,,,, I love the game but can't afford to play higher stakes,,,, I have to agree that winners at higher stakes are likely better than winners at lower stakes. As I've said before I'm disabled and live alone, so poker helps me get through the day.... So play at stakes you like and have fun.

Well said. Part of the fun is trying to make the hobby pay for itself.

I believe a lot of your poker fortune is a direct result of your comfort level with the game. That's a from both a bankroll and psychological standpoint. That being the case, if you're content with the lower limits, you're likely to feel like a fish out of water (at least initially) when you move up. The play will be a little different, but you're likely to presume it's radically different, alter your play somewhat more than is desirable, and reduce your winrate.

At some point the stakes will be so meaningless that you may move up to the next level and be completely comfortable from day one. That threshold is different for everyone. Once you reach it, you'll move up and you'll do well there too.

You just gotta play where it's fun for you and you enjoy it. If you really like where your at, stay there and enjoy the game.

I like to play where my skill level will allow me to constantly cash. I find that its much easier to cash at a $3-$11 S&G than it is at a $1-$2. Its just my opinion, but it seems like I can count on a more consistent betting pattern at these levels. People aren't as likely to be in the,{"F" it}, roll the dice, mentality & play any suited connectors heavy from EP, followed by acting as the calling station, then catching.

yes, i also do as you do frequently, i enjoy knowing that even if i lose to that 2 or 3 outer miracle, its not hurting my br so much. its a lot more relaxed culture to play in a safe zone

As I said in my CC introduction thread, "One of the things I like most about online poker is that it's a great way to practice and test out different strategies at relatively little cost. I think of it as an ongoing University where I only have to pay tuition if I lose :). I generally play for a couple of hours a day at Stars, FT or Ultimatebet, mainly micro and low NLHE SNGs."

However, once or twice a week or so I'll go higher just to test my skills or if I'm in a very, very serious poker mood.

the whole deal for me (and both my biggest br's aren't over $75 because i'm too poor to deposit, though i did at a couple places pretty much the min and then didn't ever play there that much) bah...start over...the whole deal for me is if i feel like the amount paid to play will put me in a foul mood if i lose, that completely takes all the fun out of it, and i even tighten up where i know i shouldn't. so micro has been where i've been having fun, you know just playing solid will keep you in the black despite the 'wtf he called me all the way down with that?' losses...because if you lose a few in the row, its still not the biggest hit in the world at all. i think its cool to try to move up and i'm sure that's a goal for a lot of ppl. but only when you're so comfortable and winning at what you've been playing for a good while.

I generally play micro levels, freerolls, etc. I think that it's the fun factor for me. I have money in 4 accts - w/ no deposits. I get a kick out of that! But it took alot of playing to build my br and when I have steped up, i somehow didn't enjoy it as much. Got in a $6 MTT the other night - came in the money (barely) won like 9.10. I was concentrating more on getting to the money than playing hands i would normally play. I knew I was going to be pissed at myself if I didn't place. haven't been back to another one, even tho i could easily afford it. But I have moved up all in all - started w/ FR's - moved up to dime - then to .25 then to $1. I play where it's fun for me - my husb keeps encouraging me to play the $6 again - my clue was my answer to him "I didn't enjoy the game - it was stressful for me, and I didn't play my best." I don't like to see my $ go in reverse. My next splurge is gonna be a bounty game. Like the odds of getting my $ back even if i don't end up ITM. Good risk/reward factor there, imo.

For me enjoying the game is more important than the money. Micro sng's are a nice way for an old retired guy to pass some time. Two or three games a day is enough.
