It amazes me how he can be down 10.4 million! like wow, how does this guy even get that much to lose on there? How can he still be considered a top player when he is such a degen? Plus the guy is the face of FTP which is odd maybe they pay him back a ton of rakeback for all his losses? I see so much holes in online poker in the past and still today, I think if you get any money in poker then atleast 70 percent of that should go towards a business or investing in something useful like renting property or something that can give you steady income with little work, Well that's my opinion maybe the degenerates consider this guy there poker hero I think it's sad though

If u play with staked money and losing money does not scare u , its much more easier to handle up and downs. Look at Victor Bloom or in ur example Gus Hanson.

He is the face of FTP for many years, probably already won more money than that from FT. Also, he probably goes better in live poker than online.

I think they are totally crazy in the head! Almost 11 million is a lot of lost unless they have many millions in profits! Victor bloom considered is a great player, but I do not think so, I've been giving money playing both Nlimit unplayable hands holdem as Plo and leaves much to be desired! In fact in stars in 2011 playing the ups and downs with victor bloom as star pro team, but that was short large insurance losses caused him to pokerstars!

He's a good player, mainly tournament player but I personally think he can't beat the absolute top players and gets crushed at the nosebleeds. Not sure how much he gets of FTP but I assume it will be worth several million per year.

He's never regarded himself as a "top player" or "pro" even, he's always said himself he's just a professional gambler.

The best high stakes players are ones who are bankroll management masters like Dan Cates (Jungleman12) look at his high stakes graph it just keeps going up and up...Blom is a joke I don't understand the point of playing poker if you are gonna win 2 million one week then lose it the next, with that much money you can already secure a steady source of income without the need to work anyways

Well from I read this guy likes playing very lose and I think he plays hands some people would almost never consider and uses crazy lag tactics. I remember once watching a video of of him on YouTube in tournament he just shoved all in like 3 times in row with out even looking at his cards! He got called and had pocket 2s and was like "oh this is interesting"

Full Tilt just likes to sponsor the most aggressive players possible Tom Dwan, Blom & Gus...not sure why

oh, come on, its just marketing... would you rather deposit your own money and play against unbeatable face of the room or beat the crap out of gus and brag with it? multiply this with millions of deposits per year... if the wouldnt have interest in staking him they would find somebody else..

Gus Hansen is down 10 million because he can afford to loose that... that simple. Very young he already know for making 300k sports bets and he lives in Monaco. For example, 3 years ago I were in Monaco during EPT Grand Final and playing cash games at Fairmont Casino, Gus Hansen were there too and after a short talk with some random millionaire that lives there too they left and they went home to play Backgammon, next day during EPT 10k tournament Gus Hansen were sit out all day and after awhile the news come, Gus Hansen been playing all night Backgammon and won 2 million euros (about US$3 million) to his millionaire friend. I remember everyone that Gus Hansen could not be the best poker player in the world but he were the world champion of Backgammon.

backgammon is a solved game, poker isn't, gus is just a good gambler really, i wouldn't call him a top poker player although he is no amateur either, i just don't respect people without good bankroll management in poker

How can he still be considered one of the top poker pros? Cause he's good as crap. I found the cardplayer article you're probably referring to.
http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-new...down-10-4-million-lifetime-on-full-tilt-poker

The article also has Phil Ivey as the second 'biggest loser' this past year. With your logic, two of the biggest names in poker are 'degenerates' and should be spending their money elsewhere, such as a business or property, rather than their profession.

That's like saying "because Thomas Edison failed so many times to build a light bulb, he should have stopped wasting his time trying to figure it out," rather than continue on and try to accomplish the intended goal.

There is no doubt people like Gus and Ivey are at the top of their profession. Even with career losses in the 10 millions, there is nobody at this forum that would feel fully confident sitting at the tables with either of those guys at it.
