7 Card Stud, and also its version in hi / lo might be indisputably the greatest memory poker game. A full table of 6 players going to the river would be dealt 42 cards, 24 of them would be visible to all at the table. That last scenario aside you have players folding and their cards getting mucked, did you get a look?

You go 8 players and you’re talking community cards too if your entire table is going to the river, lol.

I kind of refer to this as a throwback game as I grew up on this, 5 card stud, and draw. I honestly didn’t know what Texas Hold ‘em was back in 1981. It’s fun to run into the occasional game on days my eyes are wide open and my brain is processing the cards exposed, the action and my own hand. A poker “voyeur”, with a half way decent memory, stamina, might make a living if they liked playing this game.

What are your thoughts on 7 card stud?

Stud is an excellent game and requires very different skills than holdem... Remembering up cards is critical in stud but non-existent in holdem. It's a shame that stud has lost its popularity because it is an excellent game that hones otherwise unused poker skills. But given that there seems to be a wave of non-holdem games coming into vogue (Big O, 2-7 triple draw, 2-7 single draw, Badugi...) we may see a resurgence in stud or some variant...

And both 7-stud and 5-stud are great games :)

You rarely see on tv the big 7 card stud, Omaha tournament, people are driven by big money, media, they're played just not visible. The shame isn't only like you say "lost its popularity", and I agree, that new, and even experienced players do not learn and play all poker games. You never know what you like, and you might be great at unless you....

Btw, you were the inspiration for this thread as you were the last commenter in the thread about "Omaha Hi / Lo"; after I read your response, this came to mind. :elefant:

you're right, the 7 Card Stud requires a lot of concentration and mention, I like 7 Card Stud but I would not invest a lot of money to play because I feel more comfortable playing Holdem, but 7 Card Stud is great game

I can't remember which year it was, but there was one year where ESPN made a concerted effort to televise mixed games, including the final table of the $50K HORSE. I enjoyed it a lot. I think it was 2008, the year Scotty Nguyen won it?

That said, it must have confused the hell out of ordinary viewers because it wasn't televised in that format ever again - they changed it to a NLHE-only final table for a few years to get it back on TV. And to prove that it was a just-for-TV change, they went back to playing mixed games all the way through as soon as the tournament stopped being televised :p

Erm... no. No it's not. NLHE is different to other forms of poker, and it probably has higher variance than games like limit stud. But that doesn't make it the "dumbest".

We play the stud variants in my local casino mix (Hammond Indiana Horseshoe). It's a good skill to develop short-term memorization for sure! The nice thing about razz is at least you don't have to remember the suits!

Yes, I agree and you can add Razz to that list.

I like to play Stud/Razz tournaments as well as the mixed tournaments that include them. It's a pity there's not more of them.

I agree that it is a pity that interest and competition is dwindling, dying and maybe become so sparse it will be dead all together, or let's say going extinct.

We have CardsChat and other affiliates, competitors with collective members that could be lobbied so that when their games are hosted on third party sites, freerolls, leagues to add these games into the mix. Additionally, the sites themselves especially the ones that host many freerolls to add in the games in question we discussed so people with little to no experience will have to play if they want to engage. That's about it, maybe if the celebrity poker players push the agenda others might follow. :2in1:
