Many in this forum and far beyond it share with me a great dream that is to be a professional poker player
But we know that the way there is not easy or fast, sometimes it is, but not all of us are fortunate that it had Chris Moneymaker is not it?
Living from poker would be a dream for any of us méros mortals.
Big events, luxury cars, fame and lots of money are part of a professional poker player's life
We already know what we want
What way to go? Should we invest a lot of money?
Is it worth taking the risk of losing everything trying?
That I cannot say, but what I can say is that to get there, we will have to invest and also insist on our careers, will not be easy but who said it would be easier?
I live in brazil and here people have a certain prejudice with poker
"Poker is a game of Bad luck" "You can get addicted by playing this" they say.
The worst part is that most of the time you don't even have the support of your family.
This is our dream, but would it be our mothers ' dream to have a son poker player?
Even though it's too risky in our mothers ' vision, it's a possible dream.
One of the many things I've learned from poker is that sometimes we have to get out of our comfort zone. So get out of it, play more, risk more, study more and even lose more, but also earn more
One day a great man started a speech with the phrase "I have a Dream"
We have ours and we can accomplish it.
But you ever wondered why you want this?
Is it for fame and money?
To prove you're the best?
I answer for myself, we don't need to prove anything to anyone and the money is good, but the adrenaline of being competing in high level is that motivates me
Having my work being recognized the money is just a consequence of all this.
There'il be ups and downs of course but do not give up that dream that is mine, yours, our great dream not Give up of it

I say follow your dream, but do not jump in without first getting your feet wet to make sure it is even feasible for you to live on poker winnings.

I believe that you should do what you think is right, because this is your life. But for their own actions to be responsible, not blaming anyone for the mistakes that you will have.

I have that dream as well even though I am aware that it might never happen to me. Still, I am trying my best to achieve it and work hard for it but keep my feet on the ground. For me it's not about fame or luxury so it's not my dream to become one of those poker stars. I would just love to be able to make my money from what I truly love. To be my own boss and live a life free of duties for someone else. I am also really competitive person so I just love winning.

You are right, we should never give up and we should truly believe that some day it is going to happen. 'Cause if you don't believe in it, it won't happen. Your post was really motivating, you can do it and so can I! Some day ;)

Life should be better and richer and more complete for all, with opportunities for all based on your skills or achievement, regardless of your social class or birth circumstances.

Long hours, nights, and weekends, holidays. Not my idea of good times to work. There are also no benefits.

Couple of days hangin around a casino & I'm ready for a break. Winning consistently would, of course mitigate that a bit, but, no thanks.

Hey!

So I totally understand where you're coming from, and the only advice I have is to follow your dreams, but do so wholeheartedly, and passionately.

Passion however, does not necessarily mean you have to throw all of your money into poker all at once. I would say do so in moderation, and appropriate to your bankroll strategy (please have a bankroll strategy lol). Take the time to study and make your dream come true, and we may all see ourselves as poker players and enthusiasts, our general perception to others are "gamblers".

Criticism will always be there, no matter what you're into. Just make sure you don't give up on your goals. Good luck!

I’m a dreamer. The problem I have, is I always wake up. On second thoughts, it would be more of a problem if I did not wake up.

I often have visionary fantasies (daydreams) about lots of things, including making it big at poker. Unfortunately, it just has not happened yet. I can remember a golf pro telling me once, to visualise the shot just before I hit the ball. The first time I put that into practice, was on the first tee at my local golf club. The result was a huge slice out of bounds. Which sums up my life to date. None of my dreams have come to fruition, but I’m still hopeful.

On a more series note though, if you have a dream, you owe it to yourself to follow it. Don’t look back in the years to come and say if only I’d done this or that.

I would take the time to consider if in 20 years time you didn't take the opportunity to seriously pursue poker would you regret it or be fine with it.

If the answer is you'd regret not at least giving it a go then I'd suggest you work out a stage by stage plan with achievable step by step goals to work your way up.

Thank you for understanding my posting
Having faith is also very important
"All the things you ask in prayer, have faith that you have received them, and will have them." (Mark 11:24)
I don't know if you're religious or not if it's not okay I respect your option but I gave me the right to show you this passage from the Bible that I find very interesting
and We'il see each other at the tables someday😉

Sounds awesome!!!

... that is until reality sets in
"Wake up! You're gong to be late for school!"

But seriously though... study study study & then STUDY some more!! Let us know when you're able to beat 10nl online & then keep us posted once you get to 50nl. Most won't even be able to beat 10nl (that's $0.05/$0.10 blinds cashgame) nevermind moving up beyond that.

Or maybe it's tourneys will be your forte? One doesn't need to learn to beat cashgames in order to do well in tourneys (although it sure can help). Just move up through the ranks, taking shots in bigger tourneys... hit it big & you're on your way!!!!! It's possible. But unless you're actually better than a good percentage of all of the other people out there with this same dream (including the ones already doing it) and are willing to put in more time & effort than they are, chances are pretty slim that you'll be able to maintain a bankroll even if you do make that big flukey score coming out of the gate.

"Plan B" (highly unlikely)
Listen to Mom (& the rest of your family who knows you), stick with school. Get a job or something that provides an income (even better obviously if its something you have a passion for)... THEN play the pokerzz in your spare time. When you think you're ready, consider working less hours or taking on part-time work that will coincide with a poker playing schedule. See how you are doing with the pokerzzz & whether or not you'll even want to continue trying to become a regular on the EPT circuit, crusing around in private jets... laying down bets with Dan Blizerian on how many women you'll be banging at the next big poker venue.... etc. etc. etc.

"Plan C" (most likely)
Get in the CC freeroll club.
Win a few bucks. Gradually get better at the game until you finally get good enough to realize that you're actually not good at all. THen when you're really accomplished you'll discover that you pretty much suck but are able to beat those who suck even more than you do. Then attempt to build this into a bigger bankroll playing in micro buyins online. After taking a few badbeats for a couple months, join the biggest thread on CC & be sure that you are right & the sites really are rigged and it has nothing to do with your own level of skillzz.

Good luck!

I have said this before but I will say it again, If I will win one million dollars from poker I will stop playing it, it is a waste of time, it is a waste of you life if you dedicate your entire time to poker. Start playing, learn it's ways, control your self, win as much as you can and retreat as a winner, it is very simple way of playing poker, don't get addicted to it, have the power to stop.

In this world everything is possible. I believe in that words! If you want to be famous and have a professional contract with big poker room, you need to work on that as hard as you can and i think to spend all your time playing poker. I think this is the only way. If you want to be on the top of the world, you need to sacrifiсe something. I,m sure, lots of people dream about professional contract, but you need to understand, that the chance for that is not so big. It means, that you need to be better than the others and also get some luck. You need to play live poker(for sure). Maybe some people will see your good play at some big live events. So you will have a chance. Yes, this is just a dream, and to be honest, not so big chance for that. Also, family usually will say, that poker is not a good thing and just waste of time. This is only your decision. If you think, that poker is your destiny , then "Go on, try hard".
Anyway, if you can play poker just after your job and win some cash, this is also a great thing!
