Just wanted to get a take on what poker books you consider to be the most insightfull. I've read Hellmuth's book, but that's about the only one I've read. Thanks in advance for any input.

Sad thing but I've never read a single book on the subject. Been playing for over 30 years and they probably didn't have books back them. I've learned the hard way through the school of hard knocks...

I taught myself to play, learned the essentials, 2 hole 5 community etc. and what makes what i.e. straits, then developed my own theory on strategy. Afterwards I bought and read Hellmuth's book for 5 bucks. I'm an avid reader, and figured reading up a little bit could only help .

Doyle Brunson Super System 2
David Sklanskey Theory of Poker
David Sklansley/ Malmouth holdem for advanced players

The money you spend on these books, will come back to you 10,000 fold at the poker tables!

I agree with Bill 100% on this. Why make your own mistakes when you can learn from those of others? You will cut light years off your poker development by reading, re-reading, and regularly consulting really good books on the subject.

Be forewarned that the Sklansky books are very cerebral and deal heavily with theory and probabilities. The tables which they contain are must-haves, but they're not light reading by any means. Super System is the hands-down "Bible" of modern poker. Get it. Period. (I continue to hear mixed reviews on Super System II, released late last year. I personally found it to be a good companion piece to the original, but in no way replaces it.)

Any books by Tom McEvoy or Phil Gordon are also nice additions to your library.
