Hello! Probably each of you faced with the situation when you get into a very difficult distribution at the gaming table and just do not find the strength to drop your hand by collecting one of the older combinations (but not nuts) .. At that moment, emotions are just boil?? " "Especially if you play in a major tournament, you have an average stack, and for several hours of play-for the first time you had the opportunity to maximize your bankroll. You waited a long time and now it's time" to unwind to the full "I'm wondering what thoughts are spinning from you in the head in that What are the points and what helps you not to get lost and make the right decision-to fold? What helps you reduce the pressure that is hanging over you and reason "sober"?
What do you trust more-your intuition, experience, or something else? Or do emotions take over without letting you fold?

Patience and discipline are the key to success.
But, in my case, intuition more helps me.

It's a combination of them in the end patience is key. People that win consistently in tourneys lay down the best hand many times minimizing a potential loss until they have a very strong hand and can maximize the gains.

It may also depend on where you are at in a tournament...the bubble would play differently than early...knowing your opponents tendencies helps...many factors come into play. sometimes it just comes down to luck...a laydown at the right time is just as valuable as a hero call to double up.

Having history with the players in the hand is important to me. Would be more inclined to fold hand knowing the player had or doesn't bluff very often.

Folding early into a hand before you start losing a significant amount of chips is always a good fold, especially if the rest of the play doesn't pertain to you.

For me it is preparation, experience, my opponents tendencies. It doesn't matter when in the tournament it is. If I feel I have an advantage I am gong try and maximize my advantage at ever opportunity.

I’ve learned to fold quite a bit after watching an interview with Doyle Brunson. When asked how he consistently made it so far into his tourneys he stated he only played about eight percent of his hands... basically playing only top hands or playing where he had position

I had this recently where I held J9s from the BTN and I opened into the BB, villain called.
Flop came 372 rainbow. I cbet, villain check raises small and I decide to call. At this point it was pretty obvious villain had 7x to me, considering his tendencies to check-raise top pair with SCs.
Turn was a J, so I was ahead. I decided to check behind, with the intention to get more value on the river.
River 7. I just KNEW villain had just rivered trips. Check, bet, check-raise. I reluctantly paid off. Villain shows 76s... I played this so bad as I could have just checked behind, and in hindsight a turn bet would've probably been enough to get him to fold second pair with no flush or straight draw.

If one have a solid read on an opponent and/or some history with him so it is easier to fold your medium/strong not nuts hands.
the real problem is when a new player comes to the table or you move to a new table and this situation appears when you have a medium not nutish hand and you have to take a hard decision.
i personally think''when ther is a doubt ther is no doubt''
It is best for me to get out from a hand and loose the minimum and wait for a better spot than to loose a big pot with a medium hand.
It is even easier for me to do so if ther is another player in the hand because i get to see the hand in the showdown and take notes on those apponents that i can use later against them in similar situations.

A pair of K is a very good hand but if you are probably against a pair of A so it is not that good now right?

For me, my game skill helps me more when I'm in a tournament with a lot of chips then I start playing carefully only on good cards, but sometimes it does not help but luck comes in hand and I win, intuition also helps!

I remember in juior school a teacher was advising us on upcoming exams. She said "when in doubt, don't" . We often second guess ourselves and change what would have been a good move into a bad one so stay with your initial gut instinct

I agree that intuition is the key at the tables specialy when we have QQ and 2 players went all in pre flop and a fold is very difficult in this situation, but QQ is a premium hand and sometimes my intuition says fold;So I obey it and simply folded QQ.

I find when I win tournaments or place high I am folding alot preflop. I do not like low pairs they don't seem to work out too often.

yah good fold is the key to success specially when we are in last phase of the game say into top 5% of the remaining player in a MTT. I remember few days back when I was playing on the pokerstars india and only 28 players remaining and I got 99 and I faced 2 players on my left raising and the 3rd one gong allins. It was an easy fold for me but instead of thinking logically I too went allins and result was I got out on 28th. I made that decision on my feelings which could have been better If I folded that hand.
So a wise fold is must in any form of poker.
