Food is fuel for the body and yes, it matters what kind of fuel we put in this machine.

Although I know this well, I don't / can't always follow good nutrition practices before live tournaments and may end up chugging burgers before the cards are in the air.

Other times when I can find time to prepare food (or better yet have food prepared for me) I try to eat a meal with a good portion of protein in it (fish, meat or eggs) so that it keeps me full for a longer while.

I also try to keep hydrated throughout the tournament but it sometimes forces me to make runs to the washroom before breaks! I found that sucking on ice reduces this problem...

So, what do you eat before those long sessions, do you really think that what and how much you eat may effect your performance?

Hi.
Usually, when I play poker, my girlfriend is preparing meals for me. But there are days when my girlfriend is at work, then I can have a quick snack by some fruit.
Good luck.

When I saw the thread title, I was about to write the same exact thing! lol... But it's when I play the entire day only (about once a month).

If she's not there, I prefer not to play long sessions.

Thanks gf for making our life easy :)

Different Strokes for Different Folks. Me Personally , I don't give a hell what I eat before hand. Everybody runs different and me personally I don't eat heavy before tourneys , Ill grab a wrap and a water before hand to get me through until the long break. I try to make it to where I'm not having to get up every 30 minutes to run to the bathroom , so i'll refrain from drinking large amounts of liquid before entering.

Would rather to eat light before and then have a meal after. All depends on the times though. Normally do better with fruit and healthier snacks with water during. Save the celebratory meal for after.

I always eat to about 80% full before a tournament so that I don't need to eat anything during the tournament. However, if somebody at the table buys a pizza and offers it out, I won't say no to a slice. I usually eat something high protein and/or fat, like nuts. I stay away from sugary foods, as I find they slow me down - I'll even take tea I drink during the game without sugar and will ask for "diet" (sugar-free) soft drinks. After my tournaments, my casino does an 8oz steak with 3 sides for £5 (at my loyalty card level) so that's what I usually eat.

During the break, I can quickly make a sandwich, tea or coffee. Or, as an option, I can take sweets or ice cream. This is usually enough for me.

hello friend, depending on the tournament schedule, sometimes good breakfast and a quiet lunch if the tournament starts in the afternoon, if the tournament starts in the morning a good breakfast, such as milk, half moons, among others. then for the tournament I always try to bring some fruit and then water. regards
