Alright what is happening everyone. I have been fortunate enough to finally have the chance and the experience of visiting las vegas for 4 days. I have absolutely no clue what to do, but I know that I am going to be quite overwhelmed when I go, so I am leaning on my fellow cardschat players to give me some hints and tips on where i need to play. What to do while I am there and just about any suggestion that you could give me is warranted. I look forward to hearing what you have to say and dont hold back because lord knows I am not going to hold back when i go to Vegas.

Let's Go.:D

Go easy man. Its wicked easy to burn out in Vegas.
As far as poker goes, I hear the PH is good for soft games...

A few things:

If you plan to check out the strip, allow enough time, at least a few hours, even a day. The casinos are huge, and of course, the hotels are even larger.

Decide on a budget and stick to it. Vegas probably has more ways than anywhere else in the world to encourage people to spend more than they intend.

If you're going to look for bargains on shows, buffets, etc., do (most of) your research before you leave. There are better things to do with your time after you've arrived.

We are going May 1st-May 4th. We are staying at the monte carlo and just like a lot of people we are playing the hell out of my vegas slots to get some perks when we go. I am overwhelmed and I am not even there yet. I love the tournaments that they have in some places 4 a day. Awesom. The blind structures are long and they give a lot of chips so you have opportunities to maneuver. We are going on this trip to have fun and I will be playing poker when not out at shows and things like that. My wife went there a year ago, so she has a better idea then me what vegas is like. Its going to be bad ass.

4 days will fly by - you will have a blast. My advice is to not plan on much poker since you are going with your wife and it is a short trip. A tournament can eat up an entire day.

See some shows, walk up and down the strip and have some fun playing slots. Decide on a daily budget and stick to it - there is plenty to do when your slot budget is gone. (and it will go fast lol).

The Monte Carlo is right next to the Aria. If you do decide to play 1 tournament I highly recommend their $125 1pm or 7pm. There is an inside shortcut to the Aria past the food court in the Monte Carlo. You will enter the Aria right by the poker room.

Since you are hoping to earn some reward points and comps limit all of your slot play to MGM/Mlife casinos - which with the exception of the MGM Grand are all on the Monte Carlo side of the strip. Caesar's is not MGM though - it is Total rewards. Also you and your wife can link your accounts.

Watch the Bellagio fountain show at some point - and you can play slots in there - it is an MGM property.

Go through Caesar's - it is worth seeing.

The Venetian is worth a walk through too.

Enjoy!

Excalibur is a great place to stay if you don't already have a hotel. It's one of the most reasonable places to stay without winding up in a dump. Take a night to just wander the strip with a giant margarita. The cheapest place to get a giant margarita is in front of the mexican restaurant inside of NYNY. Then wander outside and head towards City Center (Aria, Cosmopolitan, and I can't remember the name of a small high end shopping center with some interesting fountains). City Center is interesting to walk through, they have all sorts of interesting nooks and crannies, especially the Cosmopolitan. Make sure you see the gardens inside of the Bellagio and watch the water show. Along the hallway that goes behind the gardens there is a desert shop with a cool chocolate fountain. Next casino is Caesars, make sure you walk through there too. Walk through the casino all the way through the forum shops on the other end. It's basically a mall that ranges from normal shops to high end. Somewhere in there you will find a daiquiri bar that will refill those wonderful giant cups you've been carrying fairly cheap. Walk outside from the forum shops and the next casino you come to will be the mirage. They have a giant volcano out front, so watch that erupt. Next is Treasure Island which has a "sirens" show out front. Across the street is the Venetian which is another good casino to walk through. If you've made it this far, you'll probably be pretty tired and be ready to call it a night. If you hit all of those, you've covered the highlights of the strip as far as tourist wanderings go. Other casinos may appeal to you for places to gamble or eat, but they don't have any "must-see" features.

Don't forget that drinks are free when you're gambling, take advantage!

This is the list I use to find tournaments when I go.http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php

As far as shows go, you can find plenty of mildly entertaining ones cheap. There is a half price ticket booth at MGM and a couple other locations. The best shows won't be for sale there. The best shows are some of the Cirque du Soleil like Ka, O, and Mystere.

If you're looking to gamble cheap, go downtown to Fremont Street. It's not as flashy as the strip, but they are doing a nice job developing the area. One side is called the "East Fremont District". At the end there is casino called El Cortez with $1 roulette where you have 25c chips, $3 double deck bj, and $5 single deck bj. The also have a decent prime rib dinner that's like $8. And the drinks are still free.

I grew up in Vegas, and I've taken a lot of friends back. Even the ones that didn't think they would like it had a great time. The 2 things I always do with them is wander the strip and take them for some cheap gambling.

Everyone has a great time when they go to Vegas, don't worry too much about it, it's hard to go wrong there as long as you like drinking and gambling. Also, if you're spending your whole time on the strip, getting "deals" is an illusion, so don't feel like you need to waste your time on a bunch of research trying to get a "deal". It's just a bunch of people trying to take advantage of tourists one way or another. Food will be a little overpriced on the strip, don't worry about it. Just have fun. Oh, and understand you will lose every dime you go there with =). It's just one of the expenses of going to Vegas. If for some miracle you DON'T lose it all, it'll be a pleasant surprise. Oh yes, avoid the slots on the strip, they are tighter than a tick's.... behind. Especially on the weekends.

My biggest advice would be stick to a budget, and to help make sure you do leave all your plastic at home so you are not tempted and in fact bring only 1 debit/credit card with you and leave it locked up with the hotel security and only use it for emergency reasons. I made the mistake of once taking my allowed budget amount and when that ran out i found a debit card that wasn't supposed to have been brought and it somehow kept finding itself drawn to the ATM to the tune of going over my max allowable budget around $800. It was an expensive lesson.

That is some really good advice. I will have some days to go and gamble. My wife has promised me that. We are trying to see some shows and I really want to find some of the cirque du solei shows. We saw won in universal studios and it was amazing along with the blue man group. I heard today that KA is mind blowing so I am really leaning towards that show. Keep coming with the advice. We love to drink and have fun and we are definitely going to do that regardless. I wish I could see a pro poker player so i could get an autograph and picture if i could. I would love to have Phil Ivey's autograph, but I am sure he does not just do that for anybody.

You could easily see some on the Ivey Room at the Aria - but don't go in there and ask for an autograph. :)

If poker is in your plans choose a small room, not the poker rooma in the Venetian or at the Bellagio. Those are way too competitive although you might want to stop by for a look. The Monte Carlo, where you said you are staying, has a nice, friendly, small poker room. A cautious player can sit at a $2/$4 limit table with $100 and play for hours. The Flamingo has a small friendly room as well. Also, I would avoid playing at a no-limit table where you can lose your shirt in a hand or two. By all means play in a small stakes tournament - $60 buy in or so. These can usually attract 2 or 3 tables worth of players and you know that the most you can lose in these no-limit games is what you spent to get in. Enjoy! You'll be coming back for more.

Main street station is a good resturant with great steak and chicken (cheap) and is right near Fremont St. I would suggest taking the trip to Fremont st. It is basically the old downtown. lots going on and lots to do. Plus that strip is covered by a light screen that is about a quarter mile long and puts on awesome music themed light shows every hour, on the hour (when it is dark outside.) Plus there is great deals on drinks and food and gambling there. Also there is a zip-line that runs over the heads of people walking the strip (if that is your cup of tea.)

Would also suggest visiting the Stratosphere, and taking the elevator to the top. Also the is a cool bar that is about 60 something floors up, and a restaurant that rotates 360 degrees, giving awesome scenic veiws of the entire area.

Most importantly, enjoy yourself and have a safe (and profitable) trip!

If you still have no place to stay I'll recommend http://las-vegas.hotelscheap.org/ to you. Had my first Vegas trip a month ago and booked through this website. It wasn't really cheap, but it wasn't as expensive as most of the other websites.

have one tip:
if in case you need to keep some money, do not just keep cash, but keep chips.
in vegas, I learned this experience from an old man, he said it is very time-saving to keep some casion chips and when you want to use it, just go to casino to exchange them to money.

cos casion running business time later than bank and easier to be found than an ATM

Please keep sending all of the suggestions. I am making plans as i get your opinions on what you think is good. I am going to go and play at one of the places. I have saved up some good chunk of change and I am going to have a great time. I also want to know what poker rooms should be looking and which ones will i get lucky enough to see a big time pro just walking around.

As far as tournaments go, when I go to Las Vegas I use this site to find what tournaments are running. http://www.allvegaspoker.com/tournaments.php It has been about 95% accurate for me in the past. I would ALWAYS call a poker room in advance, to make sure they still offer any said tournament, and also to get an idea of expected field size. Again, have a safe and profitable trip. And ship a few tournaments while you are there!

The Orleans has a lot of daily tournaments, the problem with that is that a lot of locals play there. The Station Casinos have a fabulous bad beat jackpot, but again those are where locals play. Stay on the strip and play with the tourists. For live play wait till after dark when a lot of people are drinking and don't drink a lot when you're playing. I like the Mirage poker room, it is small enough where there aren't a lot of team poker players but still caters to tourists.

Use protection.

4 days, just pick 1 portion of Vegas to cover. It will get too overwhelming. Eat at the Wynn buffet, and the Paris one (if you like crepes, these are amazing there). Also the SW steakhouse is amazing. You'll easily blow $250+ for 2 people, but the food an the field of dreams is a pretty cool meal experience.

See LOVE - you can get some good ticket deals for it.

wow so good to read all the tips you guys have given.
I went to Vegas 2013 and played in the wsop event 26 with $1000 buy in NLH game which attracted over 4400 players.
I went with my GF and we went on a flight over the Grand Canyon, watched Circ du Soleil O,The Jersey Boys, and 2 other shows.
Went shopping down town in the Freemont precinct(loved seeing the hotels we saw in movies years earlier).Went shopping up town too.We caught the bus for $5 per day riding up and down the strip after we had walked them for 2 days stopping at all the hotels/casinos and places like the M&M shop !
Would love to return again one day but living here in Melbourne Australia makes it a bit of a long trip.
By the way we watched the LA Dodgers plaay the Arizona Red Backs play at the Dodgers Stadium and have become true supporters.
Viva las Vegas ......all in !
