My advice: Save your money for your child support and whatever else you need to get you by-food, clothes, rent, etc and whatever.

Deposit what you comfortable playing with. The thing is, you arent going to become a poker pro in a matter of months. It could happen, but most likely its not, so dont look at this at a source of income IF you actually reach that level. If you can afford to deposit $200 into your poker account, then do so but try and maintain that bankroll. If you lose a few tournaments, its not very wise to jump into higher limits to try and make it back.

There are plenty of BR management threads here. Heck, I even have my BR management plan in my sig.

Good luck at the tables.

How long have you been playing? If you are not already a winning player it doesn't sound like you can afford a bankroll. It takes a long time and a willingness to lose some money to make the kind of money you sound like you hope to make. And if you are short already you can not afford to lose - that is a dangerous approach to poker.

Do you have money online already to play with? If not you are probably going to need to build a bankroll from freerolls and start playing very low stakes to build one up.

I would not suggest that you take child support, rent/mortgage, or any other money you need to pay bills and use it in the hopes of winning money at poker.

Let's assume from the larger amount statement that you are already a winning player. If this assumption is false, then DON'T PLAY POKER TO SUPPLEMENT YOUR INCOME! You will be the source of somebody else's income instead. Use the time instead on a sure source of income (read - second job).

If it is true that you are a winning player, you don't want to deposit any more than you already have. My suggestion is to pick a number that lets you play what you want and, using proper bankroll management, build what you have to that point first. Then, pick a withdrawal ratio to continue building your bankroll. For example, if $1000 is the level that you want to reach before you can play your desired game, build to there first. Then, and only then, start taking out $100 for every $200 you increase from there. That is, when you reach $1200, take out $100, dropping your BR to $1100. Then, when it is $1300, take out $100, etc. Continue to use bankroll management even when you have dips, so playing higher limits to catch up is NOT an option.

Hope this is what you needed even if not what you wanted to hear.

It is really not ease, but what I recommend is - don't begin from depositing and high limit tables. Just begin from 0. It's why? Because make a deposit is wery ease, lose your deposit with short run is much easier and you are back making new deposit and losing it agayn. For beginning just learn winning with freerols. You have not any risk and if you come winning player, you can build up your bankroll much faster, without dramatical winning - losing events. Your money just grows.

Earning in money table is not ease, one day you can have really good luck, but with next day(s) you are just broken with bad beats. So think about it.

If you already have collected with freerolls enough money (min $ 200 - 300) and you can win something from most tourneys in which you play, is time begin with by-in tournaments and/or money games. But it takes months (sometimes even years) of training, hunderds freerolls and a lot of your time and patience.

Making a living off online poker is hard enough, if you are asking about how to do it, chances are you need to practice more and not make a living off online poker.

Not saying you can't its just, ive been playing only 4 months, I cant make a living off it, its too variable for me atm because of my recklessness and inexperience, Ive only recently broke even from my way earlier deposits, finally + now.

Its more like

Start! - ? - PRO!

The ? is the years of practice.

I just dont see most normal people just hopping on online poker and making bank, especially if they ask how to do so.

It sounds to me you would be starting from a position of desperation. Not at all conducive to turning a profit. ESPECIALLY AN IMMEDIATE PROFIT.

You will be playing with external pressure and I guarantee you, you will feel the pressure and you will force the action. Your chances of being successful under these conditions and slim and none

Get a second job, take care of your kid and play poker 'within your means" when you can.

I have won some money in live tourneys and some on online poker tourneys, but it's mostly for a hobby as you can never tell what the cards will bring...I suggest you take it slow and don't rush into decissions, consider every possibility, play at a table for a while and learn the opponents game before you start betting and opening up

I wouldn't necessarily say you could jump right into pro status... unless you're an absolutely incredible playing machine and consistently winning, which isn't always possible. If you are already working a 40 hour work week, that would cut into a lot of poker oppurtunities. If I were you, just play and add it into your income, if you win...pro status isn't a necessity here. Good luck and keep taking care of those little ones.

I play poker as a second job and average 15 k a year part time. I started with the freerolls also ans won 1 buck then hit a 1st place and took home 1k for my 6 hr effort on pokerroom. now my bankroll stays around 10 k and i use checkyourbets.com to keep track of winning percentages. Try to have atleast 1 yr of gameplay logged using check your bets. I am consistently placing on 50 dollar sit n gos and make on a good day 300-500 bad day 200 and play no more then 10 hrs.im a 68% winner on sit n gos but trust me ive been playing competively for 10 yrs now. it took many bad beats for me to learn from and make sure my thick skull knows when to call and went to let them go.also learn to fold kk ak and aces when you are beat. this is the hardest thing to learn because knowbody ever thinks there hand is a loser.remember in closing just because you play your starting hands right that dont mean others play the same tight aggressive style.when you get great starting hands make them pay to play in sit n gos then you can pretty much check your way to the money final 3.If you have any qustions or other insights reply back i love to hear and help anyones game. lord knows these forums have always helped my game.Good luck at the table bros rake it in!!!

The most reliable way I've found to supplement my income with poker is to deal it, not to play it. It can also be mildly amusing to be the source of other people's bad beats, as opposed to the one receiving them.

Of course, if you're only looking to do this online then this advice is completely useless... but there you go.

As far as playing goes: practice sound bankroll management (there's tons of threads on it around here - note that moving up limits to win back your losses is the opposite of sound bankroll management) and keep good records of your play: it should become apparent after a while what your most profitable games are and you can stick to them. Good luck!
