Getting the most out of Doyle's Supersystem.......

I first read this book about 4 years ago and thought i would become the next Chris Moneymaker so i pulled out the credit card and made a deposit on an internet poker site. Two days later, i pulled out the credit card again and replaced the lost money with another deposit. This little ritual continued for some time until the credit card maxed out.

Hmmm, i thought, better read the book again, maybe i missed something... With renewed confidence i pulled out another credit card and once more began to feed the sharks. After maxing out the visa i began to think this whole internet poker thing was a big scam so i read the book one more time and headed off to the nearest casino with my sunglasses and the rent money. This also turned out to be a big scam and i was now broke and homeless.

Two years later, i finally got my life in order and paid off my debts with the help of one of those 40 hour work week job things. One night i turned on the tv and saw Jerry Yang aggressively betting his way to the gold bracelet. Damn, i thought. I bet he learnt that from Doyle's book.

Inspired once more, i bought another copy of the Supersystem and kept it by my side as i poured more money into one of those now trusty internet poker sites.

After the first donkey play i made, i picked up the book and beat myself over the head. This was quite painful. After the next donkey play i made, once more i beat myself over the head with Doyle's book. This ritual continued until i finally stopped making donkey plays and stupid mistakes.

I am now showing a small profit and enjoying playing poker.

My game has improved 1000% and it is all down to the greatest and heaviest poker book ever published.

A big thanks to Doyle Brunson and the bible of poker.

First thing first, how can you say a poker book is a scam? Since the pros are trying to teach you poker in a sense to more or less better yourself?


As for the orginal poster, just wondering (you don't have to answer if you choose not to), but how little were you down, since you made it all back, having maxed out your visa? personally I don't have visa but I thought they start at 1500 if so then you couldn't really be broke homeless as you claim, maybe, maybe not, both way though congrats and keep it up (just stating was all)

I have heard it suggested a couple times that the last book a rookie player should read is SS.

I used to have a big log i used to wack myself in the head with when i made donk plays 2 be honest.

You maxed out 2 credit cards?. Hot.

I believe you should be looking for some bankroll Management threads and if that doesn't work perhaps attend gambler's anonymous meetings as the start of the story could be a reoccuring theme.

No offence to you Sir/Madam i'm glad your getting back on your feet but these steps are better then a repeat performance or brain damage from brain slaps with Super Sytem, good luck anyways.

I totally agree with that statement, totally. Doyle's section on NLHE is pure genius but it is also geared towards very specific games. Games that are nothing like the micro/low stakes games that the majority of beginners play online.

Try some "Super System" on a 1/2 or 2/5 capped buy-in NLHE in Vegas and see where that gets you...

When your stack is $200 how many times are you gonna cold call a $15 raise w/ 56s?

Wow i have just borrowed super systems one and two out of the library for a brush up on, its very interesting thou i am only halfway through the first book lol (small books arent they LOL)
No wonder its called the bible very handy and its just as thick lol
