I think poker is not the worst addiction item. There are much more dangerous ones such as sportsbetting and casino games where much bigger sums are lost.

I try to keep poker as free time entertainment. Poker is quite low in my priority list. It would be nice to catch big price but I accept reality.

poker is an addictive cycle , when we played U $$ high values , and lost desperately trying to recover what was lost, however , this would be the right time to stop, but I did not stop and frantic quest to regain what I had lost . today I do not play poker in high values of tables. I am very afraid. 5 years ago I stopped playing poker cash games , tournaments just for internet gambling .lol

Honestly, i am always a bit afraid of this.
That i would not see that i have a problem until it is too late.
That is one of the reasons i always try to strictly follow a bankroll management and try not to deposit more then planned...

Anyway, congratulations and respect that you got out of that gambling cycle and seem to have your life back. Respect!

Good for you for getting perspective. Like anything that's really fun and exciting and addictive, you can't get too carried away with it for too long. You've gotta check yourself and remember what's important.

When you realize this might happen, there are two VERY important things you must keep in mind at all times:

- NEVER gamble with money you can't afford to lose!

- Study and apply proper bankroll management, so you can get the maximum amount of play out of your deposit (even if you're a losing player). This includes NOT moving up in stakes to chase losses.

Be aware that this takes a lot of discipline!

Big congrats to you for turning it around! I was surrounded with families addicted to the game. I remember fights & arguments during family gathering. lol They all brag who is better. Yet they all owes me cash money. Never got into it till now. I'm more into learning & the huge fascination about the game. Maybe I'll get the bug:D

Good luck to you sir!

Of course , poker is an addictive game , makes you want to play every day , if the person has no discipline and self-control, she may even drop out of school and work. If you will not survive with the poker money , so make poker just for fun and do not let the game take care of your life.

This game should not be influencing you in a gambling sense. That is unhealthy. This game should have an influence on your work / personal growth - using skills that Poker teaches us to better ourselves in real life.

Playing poker is not addiction...being habitual of poker is also not any addiction...I think addiction is when you bluffing again and again and loose with your poker hand
Right now I only play small buy in games or freeroll

can be reflected if I play at work. And with my personal life, on the contrary, the personal life is reflected in the poker, as I play only when there is nothing to do. it's so

Poker will not affect the life. Unless...you lose all the money.

Funny you started this topic Joao.. At this very same week I had a fight with my wife.. actually, she had it alone, I just agreed where the complaint is about me leaving her to play poker..

I don't cash in in online, just freerolls. And spend no more than 30 reais (10 dollars) in live games when I go, around one time per month.. so I'm not sure if she does get a point, however, as you learned, family comes first and now, I'm simply not playing when she's around and playing live games when she has another appointment.

It's working so far.. the point is, never let your hobbies take your real priorities out..

Thanks for sharing man. I think everyone should read and think about it before playing

No. At work I manage to combine performance of their duties and time for a game, rather the game can affect the game:) as if there is an emergency we have to leave the game. And in my personal life, I don't spend much time on the game, I mostly play late evening and my wife doesn't mind, she finds something else to my game.

I feel and believe that he who happens to play these influences to his life in general would be due to an addiction that he can not control, I think that you can separate things and have a behavior in the game and that influence would not exist
