I mostly specialized in laptop but I would try my best. First off you have to give more info, like budget size, are you a gamer? What are you looking for more speed than graphics etc. what time of gambling would you be doing just poker? you have to take all those into consideration . If you are just going to use it for basic gambling and not gaming then you're better of buying a regular PC rather than building one, only thing you should spend some extra cash on is a decent size monitor.

Regular PC specs
4gb ram
500gb hard drive
Intel core i3 i5 would be enough to gamble
Graphics
1 you can either go with an intel which comes with most PC that has intel processor or
1 you can go with amd quad processor with an amd graphics

Like I said if you are not gonna game on it wouldn't make sense to go all out.

As above - if you're going to be playing video games on it too then that's a different question but if you only want it for playing poker and other ordinary stuff then you don't really need to go crazy powerful or anything. A big monitor will be a bonus if you're planning to multitable but that's about it.

Oh, my!!!
Buddy, you moved me almost into tears.
I'm old enough to have worked on these. You had to input everything through the original floppy - indeed - drives. "Park" the disk and navigate without a mouse. You had to make the programms yourself mostly, using languages like Fortran, Cobol, Pascal.
Long live the "IBM compatible"!!!

:D Yup, they don't make 'em like this any more. At least it seems like it. Feeling a little nostalgic myself! hahaha

Thanks for the quick responses, people.
I intend to edit video appart from gambling, gaming is not my thing, although I might occasionally play one. So I need some power and a decent graphic card, nothing fancy. I will post a couple of possible configurations and I'd love to hear your thoughts on them.

Why don't you get a laptop and a stand alone monitor for convenience. You won't have to wait for breaks to make a snack or bathroom run... You'll also be able to play while on the move or something. Just a suggestion.

did you have any requirements for

How many tables you want to play at same time?
Any poker software to be used or consider to be used during the play?
Want to watch movies - or browsing HD video on web like youtube?
and
Besides poker, you want to run some PC games or programs like matlabs/Java/photoshop bla bla bla
Do you want to store large size - over 80Gb of music/video on your PC?

think that helps you choose a Right computer.

1 SSD with 1TB HDD with regular PC is enough for poker
would put money on finding good monitor....like 2 of 27 inch monitors...

LOL

but if you need to play video games that is different, would put money on CPU, memory and graphic cards.

agree with XXPXXP - I have a dual monitor graphics card and am thinking of buying a quad to set up four monitors.

Also forgot to mention, if budget is an issue you can also search your local ad or used online site like Craigslist kijiji etc to find used deal. Sometime you might be lucky to pick up a already built PC for gaming that's worth 2000 for 300 or a 32-inch monitor or $50.
