I play a lot of poker every day and with the bad run I been having, playing has become real stressful, and the fun is gone that I once had. Like when I make mistakes or have a real bad beat, I carry all that around with me for days trying to figure out what happened. Could I have played it different and got away from the hand. That I don't like. So for awhile I will be playing for pennies, very low buy in tournys, and of course my forums freerolls, and other freerolls. I just want it to be fun again. Any advice. Should I just stop playing for a time?

A small break could help. You just got to try and remember that its just a game buddy! Remember why you started playing in the first place and that's most likely because you enjoy it! Sure winning money is great and all but you gotta get back to just having fun! Although losing isn't fun, it still happens even to the best of us. We all lose some, and you can't let it get to you that much. Just try and shake it off and set your eyes on the next one!

A break definitely does the trick for me and should help you as well. Go away from poker for a few days - go different places, watch movies, chill out. Try not to think about poker when you are away or doing something else.
Then when you start feeling a bit bored of doing other stuff or think you had enough of it then start playing again. This is the time where i feel relaxed while playing most and have no expectation whatsoever and have fun that way.

When one plays long hours everyday it can seem mechanical after a while. :canabis:

It's not a bad thing you think about your mistakes or carry them around with you for days. Maybe you're going about it incorrectly though.

By this I mean, if you suffer a badly played hand and not a bad beat which for the most part are just of course unavoidable then you need to learn from mistakes by looking at the hand in question and focusing from each street you played. Your mistake could of been from pre flop by calling to wide to start with which then amplified on each street and costing you more.

I'd recommend you use your time after you feel you have made a mistake because if you can identify them which it seems you can, you should be able to learn from them.

I personally find reviewing hands more fun than playing sometimes, especially if you're learning from your mistakes. Of course though if poker is getting you down and you're not enjoying then taking a break is never a bad thing either.

Thanks guys for the replies and support. I am taking a break from my money site unless I play one of their freerolls. I'm getting into this SMC on here so that's going to be somethings to do just learning what is going on and believe me I'm lost already lol But I'm not going to stop playing my forums freerolls. I have fun playing them because I know a lot of the players.

Def take break as was suggested.
I wouldnt mitigate yourself complete to freerolls... that's not going to make the luster re-appear. Play some $1-$5 mtts with big fields, just only a cpl a day or week as per your prior volume. IMO. When you bust early, leave and do something else. When you finally ship one it will be that much sweeter!

When I get like that, my play dramatically changes, I have no confidence and start making alot of mistakes. Usually I will take a break for a couple days and play something different to break it up like a cheap horse game, and if I am really tilted, the all in or fold games on Carbon used to be a bit relieving.
Good luck.

I try not to play when I'm having a bad beat. You will make more mistakes that way. Poker is supposed to be fun for you only then you will enjoy playing and winning as well. You should take a break and see if you desire to play poker in sometime then come back otherwise not it shouldn't be a chore.

I have it same for last few months. Poker was my favorite thing to do when I had some free time and it certainly wasnt just because of money. I just dont have that fun anymore while playing. The only games which are still pleasure to play for me now are CC games and also not everytime...

Chances are you are overthinking it. You are probably making a simple mistake but you fail to see it. Start really analyzing every single move you make in a hand and you'll start to see your leak(s). But just because you know what you are doing wrong doesn't mean it will be an easy fix. It takes a lot to untrain yourself from the old (bad) habit and to reprogram yourself with the new (good) one.

Like almost everyone above said taking a rest is a great idea. I started out doing pretty well when I first jumped online then went on a terrible run where my play started to regress and I just wasn't having fun anymore. Took off nearly 6 months and it helped a lot.

Another thing which I like to do when poker stops being as fun is trying a new variant that I am not super familiar with. Flirting with Razz or Badugi at low stakes is fun and has helped me learn to rethink some things about Omaha and Hold em.

I mainly played freerolls this week and was thinking the same thing.
Stick to the freerolls and you will get a good, though not life shattering win, and you will fine find it fun again. I got 50 beans in the Big Banfg freeroll at poker stars today and I am happy. Don't lose your hard earned bankroll when you are not thinking clearly

I've only played with real money for about a year now, but tonight I decided to grind and multi-table a few play chip games for a laugh. It was hilariously fun. I was up like 10 buy-ins in about a minute. :D

Poker is a kind of bi-polar experience ,after you get over the initial honeymoon fun when your winning and miserable when your losing.Take your break ,play in a few freerolls and low stakes .If it only excites you to only play in the big tourneys try to work you way in cheap through cheap satellites if your still miserable find a new hobby.

I would take a break, including freerolls, and just rest.

Maybe try a decent tourney once a month so you have something to look forward to.

I have lived this exact example more than a few times and as other suggested you NEED a break!! When I hit this point your at I will take one, two, three days off or whatever it takes to say I WANT to play poker again and not just play to play. I do not think anything kills a bankroll harder and faster than loss after loss after loss and I have drained mine more times than I can remember trying to fight back what really comes down to myself!! Enjoy some time off then hit the felt it will help I promise you.
