They, along with several other sites, have decided the market was too big to drop out of. A few of the others are pokerstars, bodog, Absolute, UltimateBet.

The new law does not make playing internet poker illegal, it does make transfering money electronically to any gambling site illegal. Many of the work arounds deal with whether or not Poker is gambling. The legal definition of gambling would include almost all stock market plays so there is a whole lot of back stage wrangling going on. After all, the whole concept of a free money economy is at stake.

What are the other sites that you can play on? How is it possible to deposite then? I see that neteller is gone and there is Epassporte that you can use to make deposits and withdrawals. Isnt that transfering money electronically? How is Epassporte different from Neteller?

Thanks for the quick replies. Im anxious to get started again.

Well it's all up to the interpitation of the law. The government never defined what is illegal and what isn't. Right now the law says that transfers between US financial institutions and gambling sites is illegal. EPassporte is not in the US so it doenst fall within the law

They, along with several other sites, have decided the market was too big to drop out of.

Not sure that is an accurate explanation, DJ.

Those sites which have banned American players have, as far as I can tell, done so for one of the following two reasons:

1) They came under pressure from their bankers, because banks are primarily responsible under UIGEA and most large banks have offices in America and are vulnerable.

2) They are publicly quoted companies. Stock market rules (certainly in the London market, where many of these companies are registered) require, as part of business ethics, that companies shall not flout the law in any major jurisdiction where they trade.

I don`t know of any site which has banned Americans as a business decision. Difficult to see how that would make sense, even if Americans were only a minority of their customers.

The sites which still allow Americans are those which are privately owned, do not use American bankers and have no physical presence in America, so that they can feel reasonably safe from possible harrassment.

Yes Egon, you're right, those are the main reasons.

partypoker is the biggest one that had to shut down the US market because its a publicly quoted company.

I'm not sure why Doyle's room did, but I can think of many reasons why and certainly not a business decision.

The Network that Doyles Room was on blocked Americans. Doyles room claimed that th will be avalible to Americans sometime in the future.
