I agree that money and friendship are two different things, you can not buy friends with money ... I got a couple of friends on the tables, now we are really good mates, we are constantly in touch, sharing experiences, talking about poker ...

I think that friendship at the poker table is quite possible. For example, I always write good luck wishes to all participants at the beginning of any tournament. We are all the same people. And I try never to be rude to my opponents. It is always more pleasant to read friendly messages in the chat.

When I started playing back in 2004, it came about when I was at a friends house for a barbeque. We seen Chris moneymaker on tv talking about how he satellite into the main event. We where all like we can do that too. So we started having nightly games on the weekends. It didn't take long before it was all I could think about. So I bought a computer and started playing online. A few months after that I started noticing private games from poker forums. When I got good enough to start making final tables I would notice from time to time it have some of the same players. So we would start talking about previous hands played. After that we became friends, and invited each other to online poker forums that ran yearly packages to wsop, that we had found. It was the respect of the game ,the drive to one day become pro , along with the love of competition which lead to us being great friends. Since then poker forums have come and gone. I`m glad cards chat has withstood the changes of times and is still here. I still chat with a few of them and have met some of them at the WSOP. Best of luck in life and on the felts to everybody.

I kindly treat opponents at the poker table. But this does not affect my desire to win money.

Thanks to poker, I have two new friends. We share interesting online tournaments and promotions with each other, we discuss different hands ... But we never play together)

I made many friends at the poker table. Some are high rollers and talk very well. But actually knowing them made me see them differently.

I remember very clearly first learning to play live. We all knew each other well and the chap who had been running through the game with me,starting hands etc. said there are no friends around the poker table. Too true!!!

Friends and Foes

I began playing poker 12 years ago - when I was well into my retirement years. Yes, I am a very old guy. One day, while visiting a friend, he said he was starting up a small-stakes, fixed limit home game every second week. I wanted something different in my life. It was a small group of his FRIENDS. We are still friends, despite the fact that we are always trying to take each other's money!! Since the stakes are small, a friend can enjoy four hours of friendship and win or lose very little money - give or take a hundred dollars or so.

When I play at casinos, I am not a regular, so most players do not remember me - but I remember many of them. There are lots of friends, or at least acquaintances, in the smaller casino poker rooms. Regardless of whether or not they are regulars, I always treat them with the same respect and courtesy that I would like to be treated.

I haven't personally made any friends through online poker. I live fairly out of the way / middle of no where. No casino 2000 km.

Live games are a great spot for meeting some cool mofos. Old and young, ringers, dogs, oxs, and cats. Makes poker more enjoyable, and the more relaxed and fun people are, the looser their wallets are, plus it keeps people coming back for the next game.

There is nothing wrong in being kind and chatting sometimes while playing but when it comes to dealing and playing, you must not be overwhelmed by that. I mean poker is a war, and we all play to win, so no matter how friendly and kindly you act with others, it in no direct way should affect your game, if you can cope up with that maybe then you can make good friends through playing, talking and having fun, otherwise it's better to keep quiet and just focus on game itself....

Yes friendship is friendship, but poker is a game of money in which you need to win and win even friends, and there should be no offense between friends, when a friend wins or I win from him, then this is a great game, sometimes I have games that friend wins and wins my money --- and then the next day I win money from him!

Most players try to annoy their opponents by making them dislike them, which leads them to make more plays later.

I have made a handful of "friends" playing online. But we are also ardent competitors.

Never confused friendship with competition and the ones that do not understand that are usually weeded out.

I also as stated above its far better experience to be friendly with everyone, and when you come across someone who insists on being rude at a table they generally make themselves look the idiot (And sure I know this from personal experience - so always trying to grow, learn and be better)

friendship at the poker table should not stop you from playing, because if you try to help your friend (for example, not to poke him all in or poke his bets) then the poker room can find it fraudulent and punish both of you! with this you need to be careful

Poker is a war, so says "old school". With friends you can play on the play-mani, if you really want. Good relationships are priceless in our time. Do not touch the ego of friends.

In live cash games I’ve been known to go easy on my friends ONLY if they’re my ride home. I don’t wanna bust my buddy then have to leave.
