Was it the Ferguson or the Daily Dollar? Please do not say it was for the weekly $1,000 freeroll... that thing is a friggin' nightmare.
That said, how you spend your time really is up to you. If you enjoyed your time and had fun en route to winning your ticket, and particularly if you also learned something from the experience and perhaps bettered your
poker game -- then I wouldn't say it was a waste of time at all.
The Ferguson or Daily Dollar freeroll satty's can actually be an OK way to freeroll your way into some winnings -- I find these two to be more worth the time investment than the other 7,500 public freeroll donkfests and definitely than the $1k 30,000 weekly spewbash.
However, if what you are truly after is just cash to get started with by far the easiest ways to do so is to get a starting cash promotion from a site or to play in private
freerolls or freerolls with selective fields and large prize pools.
If you want to learn something about the game without risk, then I also recommend building a good play chip
bankroll and seeing if you can maintain it for several months. Many will tell you play chip games are worthless, but if you approach it in the right manner you can learn a LOT from these games without ever investing a cent. Private freerolls or starting cash deals are good for building a bankroll from nothing, but to learn about ring games with zero money risk you need to get to the upper echelons of the play chip levels and spend some time there.
