Tomorrow’s hearing in the House Financial Services Committee on Internet gambling is expected to pave the way for a committee vote on Chairman Barney Frank’s legislation to regulate the industry, the Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection and Enforcement Act of 2009 (H.R. 2267).

A statement by Chairman Frank last week indicated that he will seek to enact his bill prior to June 1, 2010, the new date set for required enforcement of UIGEA. He stated, the delay “…will give us a chance to act in an unhurried manner on my legislation to undo this regulatory excess by the Bush administration and to undo this ill-advised law.”

I also recieved a email from PPA letting me know they have delayed any actions for 6 months. They is good news for all of US poker players. It gives them more time to work for our poker rights and maybe have more members send letters to there congress supporting online poker.

I hate the argument that they are trying to protect kids. The kids are smarter with computers than adults. Prohibition has never ever worked!

I think the indian gambling interests in the US would end up making money if it were legalized. Why wouldn't they make their own poker rooms if it were legal? As an American I'd much rather play on a poker room hosted by harrah's or some other American company than some company hosted in Aruba.

The Indian Casino guy is now talking about regulating online poker and Indian casinos offering it in California. That would be one way to move jobs from overseas to the U.S. Now he is on the right path.
