So basically I've been trying to find somewhere on PS that I could win consistently in and it seems like I've finally found it. The 5 card draw $1+0.10 6 handed S&G's have proved to be quite lucrative for me. After 12 games of them, I've came in 1st 5 times, 2nd 5 times, and out of the money twice. That's 30$ on a 13.20$ investment, which seems pretty darn good to me.

After losing or breaking even at NLHE, razz, HORSE, heads up, and multi-table sit-n-go's I think I may have found my little winning corner of the poker world :D

I'm actually fairly confident that I'm a +EV nlhe and stud8 MTT player, but I don't have the bankroll to be stable in large MTT's yet. Anyway none of this is any use to anyone but I felt like writing this down and I had nowhere else to put it. CC is now my official dumping ground :)

Don't you get bored playing nothing but tournaments?

I don't play nothing but tournaments, my first post was poorly worded but I was playing ring razz and hold'em and stud 8. I can break even at the lowest stakes and beat 2NL ok, but I actually prefer the structure of tournaments.

I have always been a better tournament player than ring, and maybe that's a little self-reinforcing but I still like the way tournaments are set up. It makes the game more exciting, at least for me. I'd probably get bored playing nothing but ring games too, which I did for a while and pretty much stayed where I started with my BR.

Very nice, James. I was doing the 1.10 triple draw with good ROI, but not that good. Are you aware of the Battle of the Planets? You've avg. 25 points per sng there...500 in a block of twenty would definitely get you bonus cash.

I dont know, personally being in tournaments helps me concentrate. I like knocking people out lol? Plus it makes me feel more safe that Im not going to spend more money than I can afford.

People are so results-oriented.

Just out of intrest what do you mean by this?

Do you mean he should be more intrested in making the right play? Is the sample size too small?

Just asking because Im intrested in what other way you should measure your game.

He means the sample size is way too small, and OP is simply on the good side of varience. I've gone on heaters like that as well, unfortunately, they all come to an end :(

Ah I understand now and agree 100%.

Is good to have heaters but you got you know that the coolers are just around the corner.

The book I'm reading says exactly this.

Don't worry about anything except making the correct decisions over the long term. All your wins and money will follow from this.

Setting goals like 'I want to win $20 this week, or I want to place IMM in 7 out of 10 tournys' can be a mistake. Your only focus should be to make the right decision for any given play.

This doesn't have much to do with the OP, anyway. He was just saying that he found a game that he seems to be more successful at.

Yeah, basically, just worry about playing better than everyone else, and not about how many 1st place finishes you have.

he has a smal sample size because he has a small sample size, ffs.
Congrats, OP, on finding your niche, Ive yet to find mine, Im dabbling everywhere, but sngs/mtts were always my forte, purely micro stake online.
Congrats again.

Update: 30 tourneys, 1st 13 times, 2nd 10 times, not in money 7 times.

Still a small sample size, but it's getting bigger. And I'm not saying I found my niche because of how many tourney's I'm winning, but the way in which I am winning them. The competition is so poor that it's not hard to see this continuing.

I love ring games but if I start to run low on the old BR I hit the S-N-G's. Play it smart with a few loose calls and in the money everytime

Although I don't disagree that my sample size is too small, and that I very well may be on the good side of variance, what is to say that someone is on the good side of variance just because they are winning? Just to play devil's advocate, how do you know someone who's winning 80% of the tourney's isn't on the bad side of variance and can actually be winning 90% of the tourney's on a regular basis.

I think that good players focus on one thing and one thing only -- whether they are making good decisions. At the end of the day that's how they evaluate whether they are playing good or bad. Like they say, poker is all about making the correct decision based on incomplete information.

ehh that may be true but its pointless to think otherwise until the sample size is reasonable.

Why not tell us something about your Five Card Draw strategy, James ?

There is almost nothing on CC about 5CD. If you have evolved a plan, there is a gap to be filled.

I don't consider myself an expert on draw right now; the people at these stakes are quite low. I'll keep the idea in mind, however.

Even a beginners guide would be good, I have no idea how it is played.
