i have noticed a pattern that i am able to play much better when i focus on the game and not on the money aspects of the game which can cause me to chase a loss or think of stupid rules inside my head where i have to win back enough money i spent on a tourney buy in etc. and worst of all doing that by playing some hyper turbo heads up game most of the time.
i have had great results and sometimes not so good, for my short term winnings ive turned around 80 bucks into about 650 in 2 or 3 days on stars, just grinding hyper turbo heads up and when i did this i was very aggressive playing too high of stakes and yet it worked
long term i can sometimes cash out before i do something bad but other times i start tilting like crazy if things go bad
does anyone else do anything similar? i feel like im only now starting to realize how bad of a gameplan this is and will now adjust to improve those long term results

I noticed that too and I'm trying to change the mind about poker money. I only play poker to buy things that I like and since I don't need to win money for pay bills or anything like that, I already catch myself playing out of limits to reach the amount of money that I need. In long term, of course this is not going to work, I already made a small amount of money in a decent cash many times too (lost many times too..), but if you don't cash out or have the control and play with bankroll management with the winnings, you are probably going to lose everything because good run can happen for some time, but the bad days always will appear one day.

Yeah guys, basically never ever think about the results. Even if you're gonna play for a living you should be sure you have a large cushion so that you're comfortable with downturns.

basically i feel like the go to move here is earn enough for the amount you deposited and withdraw it and then basically you need not worry on losing money, basically be freerolling, and joe hachem said something like take that money you scored put it on lock in your bank account and look at your balance for 3 months till you own that money :) i agree with joe cause if you dont feel like your owning that money than the money owns you am i right?

Best players are able to completely forget about the $ signs, it's tough to do. You can make a fine living not playing nosebleeds, but I can't imagine some of these guys throwing around some of the $ they do on bluffs and not having a stroke. Takes some kind of sicko.

I decided to comment on this topic because I felt very identified with what he says! When I began to play poker was very alert all the time in the lobby while playing ie looking at the amount of players and I hiban eliminating fixed to see how charged or not charged! Note that this desconsentraba me much and put aside the poker game! In a tournament decided to stop looking at the lobby and I was getting excellent way final table finish! It is noted to be consentrarse alone at the table and let things take their normal course without expecting anything;)

'Cashing out' is not a solution to tilt. Fix that tilt problem so you can lose 10 buyins and still play optimally with the 11th !

May be poker can turn into a true kind of sport.Chips will not connect to money directly. We just enter those matches, and win the prizes like tennis, and so on.

...

That's already a thing. It's called "tournament poker." You might have seen the subforum we have for it on this very site.

Variance in hyper-turbo's is massive, proper bankroll management is essential if you don't want to go broke. Good play will dictate your profitability over the long term, not your swings.

In poker i find its best to just throw the results out the window.. If you think about the outcome or results or money it will always tilt you when you run into a bad beat or a downswing...

Instead just focus on making the right plays and constantly improving your game.. The only thing that should tilt you is making a bad play.. Losing a big hand shouldnt upset you if you made the right play because over time you will win money making the right moves.. Poker is a marathon not a sprint

when it comes down to it i gotta think poker is more of a game against yourself most of the time than it is against others and the better you can control yourself and be your best then really you are maximizing your ev and can't be dissapointed, but even the best have issues with this, thats why the right poker mindset i think is highly undervalued in life and poker, you want the result but you gotta put in the hard work and have the discipline needed to succeed
