For you stats guys, how often is/does this happen? I know Daniel Negrenu said in his book that set over set doesn't happen often enough to even worry about it. But I would be interested in the percentages of flush over flush happening. It happened to me last night at my local casino and cost me my stack. You certainly don't see it much I know that.

It can happen, and if you come up against a hgiher flush you're broke almost every time... it takes real dedication to lay down a flush. Best way to avoid a flush over flush that's not in your favor is to avoid playing suited cards that aren't AT LEAST (imo) king high, that means no getting cute with T9s obviously.

Yes, it has made me seriously think about my starting hand choices lately. I have gotten burned big time on this on more than one occasion..

I take your point but I think one of the reasons we play suited connectors is for the number of potential hands they can hit and a flush is definitely near the top end of this scale. With three to a flush on the board and two in my hand I'm playing that fairly aggressively, even with a low flush. Sure I'll aim for pot control if I get played back at or have a good read (very good read) on villain but generally I'll be happy I'm best. With four to flush then I'm definitely slowing down and not quite so comfortable.

This has happened to me twice in the last ten days playing at my local casino. The other day I had 75C and the board came 6c4c10c, not only do I have a made flush but I've got the straight flush draw. I didn't slow play, firing out 20 dollars, then getting raised to 60, I then shove. The guy thinks for five seconds and then calls with K2C and I miss my draw.

The other time I hit a diamond flush on the flop too, I was holding 89D and someone else had a J6D to beat me. So it seems like here lately it's happened quite often. And you lose your stack everytime, it's very hard to avoid losing your stack when flopping a flush.

Flush over Flush happens.

3 times in the last session.
I was on the loosing side all 3 times.

That's running cold for sure.

Fluctuations and variance = nothing lasts forever.

I lost what I thought was a nut flush to a straight flush, everyone in the room was laughing but I was crying.

Well, low flush is not nuts and you will make more money in the long run if you play small-ball poker, because you will be called down often with worse hands.

If you play your flopped small flush aggressively - you will fold out the worse hands and you will be giving your stack to a higher flush. You can't safely win a full stack with a flopped flush, so don't try to do it :)
