I was at the local casino playing 1-2 nl holdem. I had played about and hour and a half, fairly tightly. Managed to catch and play a few hands well enough to run 100 up to about 180 or so. I decided to losen up, because some of the players were really fast and making some horrible moves. So I call a weak raise with a Jh5S. Flop: 6-4-7 spades. THree people in the hand with me acting 2nd. Check, I check, button bets 20. Call Call. Turn 8 spades. I am super wooded. Checks to the button again and he bets 25 call call. river A spades. which sucks because i so wanted someone to have that bastard. First guy checks knowing his straight is shiite. I start to reach for chips and am counting out a value bet probly 25 or so hoping the button had the Kspades and will raise me. As I'm doing this the button grabs a stack of greens close to $150. I'm watching this and I'm about to lose it. He reaches past the line and is like two inches from putting them on the table, and the dealer stops him because its my turn. Now I am almost positive he has the K. So I decide to check raise, and let him take the bet.
THE BASTARD CHECKS DOWN!!!!
Don't know if maybe he was getting a read, but I saw them chips and stained my pants.

Well I'm guessing he did get a read then - Mike Caro's book of poker tell's says that if you smell shit on your opponent you should check/fold.

He probably didn't even notice you were there until the dealer prompted him, and I'm sure at that point he took notice of you for the first time all pot.
But when he looked at you and saw your eyes rolling around in the back of your head, and the foam bubbling around your mouth i guess he got the read he needed.

his book is a must for low stakes brick and mortar games.
you can also download a video version, which is also extremely helpful on limewire or another P2P program.
One of the tips he gives is that when your opponent reaches for chips out of turn, he usually is trying to persuade you not to bet...

you are definetly the best poster chuckts

I've read Caro's book and although I don't completely buy everything, it was easily the best poker book I've read. Helped my live game considerably. I reccomend it to everyone. In fact I might read it again.

it is great...but the info kind of loses its worth when you move up the limits
i mean will a solid player at a 20/40 LHE table really sigh like he's depressed when he's got a big hand?
i think the tells he presents are very useful, but only at limits where there are players who are really not aware of their physical tells and have no knowledge of the hints they're giving off...which is rare in poker nowadays unless you're playing home games
though alot of the tells still work with alot of players

AHHH

yea that move is commonly used, it was to deter you from a bet

he probably thought you had the hand but didnt want to pay anymore to see

ALWAYS bet and or raise when a player does that

think logically here, how many players actually do that without knowing? not too many. And if they are there they wont last long. This is real poker, not "online poker"

lol sometimes its easy to bluff/get a free card

when ur position is late make a bet out of turn (the dealer will kindly say, sir please wait your turn) pull your bet back and hear check check check

not positive about where you play but if you set your chips on the table past the line they have now,(which he did not) whether its in turn or not it is a bet, and you can't take it back. Could be different rules in different casinos
