Playing in my first live game tonight about 18 people a few beginers... Any got any tips for a live tourney rather than an online one?
Should i be playing in more hands seeing as there wont be as many hands on each blind level as there is online?

There is one bad issuse as the game doesn't start till 7PM and me and a few work mates go to Happy Hour & a Half at 5PM:beer: so by 7PM i might be a bit :drunken_s

Good luck and have fun at your first live game. I can't give you any tips because I haven't played at any live tourneys, but in my opinion you should mostly play tight and steal the blinds when possible. :)

the best advice i can give is dont play any junk hands and pretty much dont react to anything. make sure you keep your chip stack close and memorize what the value is. and always cut the deck before every deal. especially if its a home game. and basically watch everyone at the table to pick up reads and to make sure that there are no funny stuff going on.

do not announce your hand out loud as you look at your cards

Ok so i came 9th... Turns out just about every1 was a beginer and a calling station. Hand i went out on went something like this:

This guy was the biggest calling station of all and i was starting to get a bit short stacked not being able to steal the blinds.

Dealt to me K 9 (suited) BB
Checked after several limped in
Flop Q K 9 (rainbow)
I raised 2xpot trying to scare a few people off - calling station raised me all-in - i called.
Flip the cards he was holding A 10 os.
Turn 2
River (You guessed it ) J

Hopefully I have a bit better competition next time.

You can't bluff an idiot.

He could have had J 10 and already had you beat... I think I might have laid down my 2 pair to an all in bet in that spot. You weren't that strong, J 10, KK, QQ, 99, KQ already have you beat.

Turns out you made the right call and got sucked out on, but hey that's just poker.

And no, you certainly cannot bluff an idiot. But idiots are very good at bluffing.... maybe because they really have no idea what they're doing.

I recommend the introduction of a new rule for all home games - anyone who sucks out on a donk call must drink a large measure of neat vodka. 50-100ml per donk call should do the trick. If they're superdonks they'll be on the floor before the 3rd level :D

Try and relax before hand and coach yourself to play your normal game. Dont let the chat get to you.

I love live games, they are so much easier than on line. You are able to to get more and better reads and it's easier to make them think what you want them to.

I play mostly cash games live, but a few tourneys. I do also play with a lot of calling stations. So just be pacient, don't get involved in big pots unless you have the best on on the flop. Let them bet into you and when you know they can't draw out a bigger hand, reraise them and most of the time they will pay you, they just can't stand it.

When playing with decent or good players naturally you have to adjust your game to that. Then you are able to steal or bluff more as long a you are not putting off any reads. You really have to watch you emotions, your expressions and you movements when playing live. As you can get more reads playing live, you will also give off more reads when playing live. So not only pay attention to what everyone else is doing, but pay attention to what you are doing.

I played in this same trny again last night. 1st/30 :) felt really good all the way through. The quality of live poker seems to be < that of online. This particular trny it was alot less.

It was funny watching people trying to bluff each other with complete rags. One hand made the showdown with a paint filled board. One guy turned over 94o and the other guy turned over 64o i couldn't but lmao.

Relax and enjoy yourself. Only tip I can offer is for at least the first 40 or so hands, let everything short of class 1 hands go. You will benefit from the reputation as well as having started a solid game. Don't look at your cards until its your turn, but watch everybody's face and actions as they look at theirs, correlate it to the hand's outcome and store in your random access memory for use later. If you have a pornographic memory like me, it helps. :)

good luck

try to get a Royal flush, they usually win

Actually just relax and have fun,bet your good hands, mix in some steals when the people acting behind you are playing to tight.

Announce your action before you put chips out.
Watch everything at the table, you just never know when you pick up on something that will help you later.

And did I say HAVE FUN ;)
