my first live game story: A bit funny really
My brother and I decided to go out and celebrate his 18th birthday, him being 18, he was allowed into the casino's here in Oklahoma. Anyways, i had done some light reading on the subject, and played some penny-ante poker with my parents/siblings but nothing nearly as cut-throat as a live poker table. So we drive the 30 minutes to the casino get in and walk aruond the place as neither of us had ever been in one before.
Well, I decided to put my name on the list to play - and i misheard the lady say "2/5 no limit" as "2/5 low limit" so i sit down with my 100$ i brought (i hadn't then even heard of a bankroll. I was a newbie fish, and these people damn well knew it too when isat at a 2/5 table with 100 white chips. So, When they call my name i sit down, and start playing a somewhat tight game, and i'm up a little (roughly 20$) and a new guy sits down. First thing i hear from a guy already sitting is "wow. I just read your new book. Very good stuff." And i think to myself "crap, i sure stepped in some doodoo now." Anyhow, long story short, my brother ends up sitting at the 3/6 limit table and bringing home about 120, while i ended up going broke AK v AQ. Gotta love it. Of course, over the course of hte next few months, i refined my game, read up on this stuff they call poker, and am working on building a bankroll big enough to support high level tournament buyins.
I guess the moral of this story is simply know the game you're getting into - and listen carefuly. LOL. don't mess up and play 2/5 NL when you want to play 3/6 limit
