I wanted to post an update on this thread.
Since the first game didn't go so well, I decided to have another game, which was last night. We changed the style of the game a little bit, having a cash game instead of the tournament. I didn't fare well again, but I came to a realization.
I have been overlooking a big part of the game of poker for years: the comradery that the game creates. I was always so busy strategizing and calculating odds
and such, that I never took time just to chat while playing. It made an enormous difference in enjoying the game, even when the cards were not cooperating.
So, the next time I take a bad beat, I will simply smile and ask how their kids are doing. Hope every one else can do the same.
