I have not done this in a while. I raised 3.5 x BB with AA in 1st seat.

Villian, in BB raised all in. GADS I HATE THAT. OK. Pause for a moment. Think. I'm 86% favorite over random hands. I call. Villian shows KK. OK. Not too bad. I'm 80%. As I am typing "ouch" board hits...KK9.

Going back to my basics....

  • DONT PLAY FIRST HAND IN A MTT---NO MATTER WHAT.
Not complaining about a bad beat...simply laughing at it (and myself).

Have fun, ev1. Play intelligently.

Ill agree somewhat, I think its just the brain writting into your mind the first hand is "bad" as its easier to count the 1st hand that you remember going busto.

2 examples.

Sit down at a live 1/2 table, first hand delt 55, limp in along with like 6 others.

Flop 2 5 10

someone bet $15, i called, another guy called.

turn A

A guy bet $25, i raised to 60, 1 guy folds, he calls.

river 3

the guy checked, i went all in, he called.

He flips over A4 for a straight and im down like $160 or so to a sad little $40.

Online 1/2: first hand again im on the BB first hand, delt 8 5 so I checked 5 limpers.

Flop comes 2 8 5 w/ 2 spades.

all checked to me i bet $15, reraised to $50, i go all in, call.

The guy turns over q9 with a flush draw spades, he hits on the turn A of spades.

Down another $150.

This was in the past 2 days too :D :D

Ye, there is nothing worse than having someone push all in when you have aces

So you took a bad beat...you would have lost your entire stack in a cash game as well, such is poker.

Last MTT i played i flopped an ace high straight 3rd hand i think and a guy went all in on 2 pair and hit the fullhouse on the river.

However, having said that, would only play select hands at the start of an MTT. Otherwise you catch a decent flop, where you rpboably have the best hand but ofc some idiot is going all in regardless of what he gets and youc can't call him. But if you get aces or kings and can get a guy all in then obviously you want to do it.

I love the smell of all in when I have AA. Smell like money! Sure they get cracked once in a while, but I bet if you slow play them you loose more often.

Only way I wouldn't play AA on first hand is if there were lots of players. But heads up - you're a massive favourite. Great position to be in - 80% of the time. you just got unlucky.

in one sense, better to get unlucky then than to play for 2 hours, then get unlucky. Or even worse, have KK and run into AA.

When you signup for a MTT you have lost your money. It's up to you to win it back.

I read somewhere that T.J. Cloutier said that he folded pocket aces on the first hand to an allin in the main event once.

Phil Hellmuths advise is good advise about matters like this: Dont play any hands for the first half an hour of a tournament. Even if you get AA. Itll show that your not lose, plus you can get a good idea of what type of players your playing against. Besides, going out the first hand in a tournament sucks, especially when you got AA to get sucked out on.

Insane IMO. Though it's easy for Phil to say, seeing as how he typically doesn't turn up until 90 minutes into the tournament anyway.

No way I'm folding aces against a single opponent, first hand or not. Suckouts happen, but so do double ups. And double ups happen a lot more often.
