Yeah there is nothing like the rush of live poker. I also have that same feeling when I'm at the final table of a big tourney online though.

Live tournys

I was wondering if there are any other people that have experienced a great deal of excitement when playing live poker. Its not that I am nervous but for some reason the first 5 or so live tournaments i played just sitting at the table my heart would start racing sometimes my hands would shake. Im sure it was obvious. It still happens but not as extreme. Does anyone have any advice on how to stop this. A friend of mine suggested xanax lol but i want to be able to concentrate on the game

Ya, the rush is certainly cool. there's really nothing like picking up Q A J on the flop when you're holding K 10 to make the A high straight. Even a full house on the flop is always really nice.

Enjoy the poker, this is OUR game. GO Cardschat !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always feel my heart rate go up when I hit a monster... Even after having played millions of hands.

yea but i hate the feeling when you are doing every thing right but the cards are not cooperating. Then you think to yourself "Okay, I'm playing good, but I have been unlucky, I'll sit around a few more hands and eventually I'll get it back". Still the cards don't cooperate. Just one of those days.

It's the rush of adrenaline! As someone once said, "The only thing almost as good as gambling and winning is gambling and losing!"

FWIW, you will start to be a decent poker player when the result of a given hand - be it good or bad - has no effect whatsoever over your adrenalin level.

The buy in was the money you spent to sit down. It's gone. All you have are chips. Chips have no monetary value. They are simply a way to gauge how you are doing vs. the other players at the table... when you're playing a freeroll with $15,000 in front of you is your heart racing? Nope. They're just chips.... you really, really have to have the same mindset live... could ya open your wallet and throw a $50 or a $100 into the pot on a call? Probably not. A black chip? Heck this hands worth TWO blacks and a red... raise!

And I have also noticed that as I learn and make better decisions, the adrenalin effect lessens. Sometimes it seems like the bad decisions are what gets the heart pumping.

It's easier to stay calm when you are confident you are making the right calls, win or lose.

I think I usually only get that rush from online poker during a big hand. But during live poker it feels like my heart is beating 2x as normal throughout the game.
