Fear of Cashing out

I know this may sound strange but, I played online at one popular site
and did ok, I turned my $25.00 into $290.00. It took about a month
since I play infrequently and at short intervals. Well I went to
cash out. I said I wanted to leave $50.00 and cash out the rest.
This is the weriod part, when I played the next time I got the
feeling that the poker site was trying to punish me for cashing out.
I got the oddest hands. I saw other players winning with
Royal flushes, etc.
I gave it a break and came back the next week to the
same problem. I reluctantly left the site and moved to anther one.
I am now facing the same thing. I want to leave some money in and cashout but I am nervous the same thing will happen. Has this ever happened to you.

If it has happened to people, I would assert that it is random, for reasons that it seems we have been discussing daily here lately.

Aside from not making much sense even if a company were willing to break the law in order to "punish" people, there is no evidence that this is the case. Rather, this is just a psychological reaction that we have when we are sensitive to certain situations.

Withdraw freely.

To conquer your fear, I would suggest withdrawing it all at once. Then you can wait for a good reload bonus and go back to that site.

Even though most believe the basis of your fear is unfounded, the above might help you mentally get over it.

Ah, the doom switch.

The argument against it breaks down to:

1. Punishing players for cashing out has only one reason: Deterrence. The site wants to prevent you from wanting to cash out.

2. Deterrence only works if the people who you want to deter from something know about the consequence beforehand.

... and I don't think I have to write down step 3.

I have also had the same experience. On two different sites, after cashing out a substantial part of my winnings, I`ve experienced a big downswing.

It does make you feel that there`s some kind of conspiracy against you but, for the reasons the other guys have given, I don`t believe that`s really the case.

I think it`s more likely that (if there`s a rationale for it at all, other than random luck) the reason must be with me. I must be playing less well, perhaps afraid of the game now that I have less BR behind me, or perhaps overconfident because I`m a winner.

Could that be the problem with you, do you think ?

I dont know if this is the case but it sounds like your reduced br is making you more aware of the bad beats as 50$ off 50$ busts you but 50$ off 290$ is just a bad session. As to the punishment of you for cashing out i cant see this being the case because it is a competeive market in online poker so why would they crap on a good player who if they build their roll again would earn them more in rake thn 1 who busts and doesnt rebuy in?

I've noticed that everytime I make a withdrawl from a certain site, my available balance on that site seems to go down. Weird, if you ask me. Like the other site, after I withdrew my entire bankroll from there, my balance went down to $0 immediately. I quickly closed my account after that. Seemed shady.

I have a similar fear of messy enchiladas.

That is because I have cracked all of your passwords and each time you empty an account I go in behind you and transfer what is left to my account.
But there is something shady going on because my balances never increase.

It is even worse when you withdraw money and the balance goes up. I formal letter of complaint is definately then in order.

And for my official answer :-
Cashouts come after upswings or hotstreaks...to think it unusual that this hotstreak doesnt just continue unabated after a cashout is just a little silly. Peaks and Troughs, Peaks and Troughs.

withdraw it all then wait a week and make a deposit then instead of being marked a withdrawer you'd be marked a depositer and wont experience the bad beats:smile:

I'm afraid of making a deposit because I've seen people on poker sites suffer bad beats and most of them have deposited too at some point. Help!

The worst thing you can do is withdraw too much out and have to slowly grind back up. The less money you have in you bankroll, the harder it is to win.

You should always leave yourself a cushion. This cushion will allow you to suffer the worst bad streak and still not have to redeposit. If I initially deposited $25 and got up to $300 after a month I wouldn't withdraw more than $150. It is so much easier to go from $150 back up to $300, than it is to go from $25 to $175.

The smaller the bankroll you have, the more cautious you are about bad beats and going bust. This in turns makes you play weak, which makes you more prone to bad beats!

who feel an obnoxious desire to be sarcastic.........I will not comment.

When you think about it logically it makes no sense why this site

would care one way or another. I was not withdrawing that much

money. But there was a definite difference after I withdrew the money.

I purposely did not post the name of the poker site because I

felt it was more important for me to get some thoughts from

you as to why this happened.
