For all the SNG grinders out there, what is a respectable ROI for a full time grinder?

What stakes are you currently playing? How many tables are you currently playing? How many games per day do you play? Are you playing 9-man, 18-man, or larger field SNGs? And of course, what is your current ROI and over what sample size?

I look forward to hearing back from everyone!

SNG grinding online

For a long time now I have taken for granted my ability to destroy 1 table SNGs..It's not arrogance, but many years ago I read that "...in SNGs you basically just wait for everybody else to knock each other out.", and something just clicked. You play tight at first and start stealing when everybody else tightens up...Obviously you need to have some ability and good timing but whatever. They have always been boring to me. Only lately have I decided to start focusing on my strengths again and play them frequently. In short, I play 4-6 1 table SNGs a day, and literally just yesterday I started playing 3 tables. My BRM and financial state demands that I play low limit stuff for the moment, even though I feel totally comfortable at higher stakes (I have been playing for 16 years). SO anyway..To me, when you play several a day, I feel like if you are playing well, 100% ROI is acceptable for the entire day, but optimally you should be anywhere from 275-450% if you are consistently placing 1st or 2nd. One tactic I employ a few times a day is to play a few "triple up turbo SNGs. Either 6 or 9 handed, depending on how tough you think the competition will be and how long you want to spend playing. Because you only have to come in 3rd or better, they are a quick and easy way to make money if you are confident in your abilities. Right now I do this about 3 times a day, combined with 4-6 regular 9 handed games. This gives the bankroll a nice boost. My usual buy in is $10 + $1 for right now. With the T-ups, the ROI is about 200% each or roughly 100% for every 3 you play if you are consistent.

Ten years ago I kept notes from when I played jackpot SNG's at Titan (which had a 3rd place finish at a 6 handed table for even money) and regularly played the satellites at poker stars and on party poker for the larger games.
One of my refrains was "patience...let the others make mistakes first." If you are strong at heads up, let your opponents kill each other off first then you start making moves. One time I showed someone how I played and explained step by step what I anticipated certain players to do. These were two satellites to the Sunday 1M and I won both games...luck was a factor but not the determining one.

In my opinion, you can earn a living doing this in the 50k - 75k range annually if you are semi-serious about it. But it's an isolated environment and you will probably need coke bottle glasses if you play online for any length of time:dong:.

The posters above me is probably way better than me, but the numbers seems way off. If you manage a roi of 20% i 9 man stt, you are "crushing" the level.

My 2 cents

True. Beyond that is the added-value of the games played.

Is it a jackpot game where if you qualify you win at least 1000X your stake. At Titan, the Dirty Dozen cost $2 to enter and if you were the winner 4X in a row from a field of 12 within a week (or two?) then you won a prize of $2000. These games no longer exist there.

Are these games part of a qualifier (like the above) and/or if you are a consistent player how much does your leader board position add to your bottom line...and what about opting-in to a rake-back guarantee?

These are extra things have everything to do with increasing your ROI.

I definitely need to look at some other ways of increasing ROI as well. Right now I am just playing 9-man SNG's. It's on 888 so I do earn points towards rake back, but that is about the only extras I am getting towards my ROI.

Anywhere from 20-30% ROI in sngs is very good over the long term.

As long as your ROI is high enough to beat the rake on your site then you're doing fine and will make a profit in the long term.Just remember to use decent bankroll management when it comes to SNGS and especially MTTs.

I'd be more than happy with 20-30% ROI. Honestly though, I didn't even think about the rake...
