I was recently at the Borgata with a bunch of my boys, and my one friend had a little misunderstanding at one of the cash games he was at.
My buddy Nick was getting a nice buzz on and having fun as he always does. One of those friendly out going sorts who is always making you laugh. As he tells the story he was sitting next to a middle aged female player. While playing a hand versus her, my buddy trys to win the hand on the river with a huge bluff.
He tells her he will show her a K which would win the hand vs her poket QQ's, if she folded. She complied thinking my buddy was a really nice fun guy and then he goes ahead and shows the old 53 off. The table was livid and everyone turned on Nick fast. So much so that he had to leave the table. My friends are split on the ethicasy of this play.....what do you think?????

Not believing anything you are told at a poker table seems to be the wise play. A fool and their money are easily parted.

I know at the low stakes live games I play sometimes this would be considered similar to killing and eating an endangered animal right at the table. :D

At higher stakes most would snap call after his comment lol.

That's poker, it is a game about truth and lies.

If anyone believes anything that an opponent verbally says at the poker table then they are a fool.

Use every tool you can.

It seems like talking while in a hand has become more and more frowned upon. So much so that I've played in tournemnts where I've been heads up and been told that I can't say certain things. I think it's totally part of the game and if someone wants to talk I let them go right ahead, becasue you can pick up a lot more information than someone who is just sitting there stone faced all the time.

If bad are upset ill calm things down... angry customers dont pay.. tilters do tho

But i seen someone do that but follow up with the saying i lie but the cards dont lol ... just gotta live and learn from reactions. If people just fold nonstop n its a boring game this could def liven things up hahshs

Some places u r not allowed to talk about ur holdings. At least in tournaments. So his speech play i think is over the line talking aboit his holding. This isnt a tournament but my opinion is should not be allowed. And i would be for his hand being mucked at the point od him talking about his hand.

I do not play poker for money with my relatives or close friends if they do not understand that this is a competition, and not just a pleasant pastime. You will probably get a lot of negativity and quarrels, beating the weak players. Or vice versa - play weakly not to offend or ruin.
Ethics in poker also means bluffing - this is part of the game. If your opponents do not understand this - they should not play. But you will be in a difficult sitration, if they are your close people.
If you are a strong professional player - do not play against people close to you. You can give them some lessons, explain why you played it that way, but do not try to win their money.

I don't think he did anything wrong as talking between two players as your post entails is perfectly legal...he was bluffing! What would of happened if hadn't said anything and played the same way and the results were the same would he have been scolded the same or would they consider him just a loose cannon. Was the table full of regs and he was the outsider cause this may have been something that added to the scrutiny. Good luck on the felts!

haha it's a good strategy, i never say i will show you X card, when i do that i say i will show you my cards so you know your fold was good, and sometimes i show sometimes i'm not haha, sometimes i show the bluff sometimes the good cards and sometimes i hide them in the deck right after the other player fold

Seems to me it was a table full of those hours making regs and your friend. She decided to believe he was telling the truth, that's on her. He did nothing to elicit the reaction he got. If you believe everything your told at the table you should probably rethink playing. Personally I don't put much weight into what people at the table say about their hand, unless I have a good read on them.

There isn't one single voice to say the guy is a skunk??? Unbelievable!

(She may be a sucker, but that's irrelevant)

Speech play at its finest. Too bad he was at a table with a bunch of whiners. Anyway, it is risky business and people take their gambling very seriously so always tread lightly.
