Now, alot of people say that the rush you get from poker; there is nothing like it. What if you added 500 mL of straight energy rush to that.. would this affect your game in a way where you might be to quick to act or could this some how benefit you??

What do you guys think... I know from personal experience it's hard to keep control with Aces rolled over a shove when your heart is beating way above the normal rate, from the cards to the drink... most people will notice this but is it a weakness or a benefit on the felt. (or online)

I personally think that this can in no way benefit you unless you are completely dragging ass. The energy will make you jittery and impatient. therefore, the impatience will in turn detract from how much you contemplate your cards. I am basing this off of how I feel and I know that its just a theory, but energy drinks increase reaction time and might work if playing video games, but idk about poker. Anyones bankroll willing to experiment =)?

It is good but with limits. Like said above too much will not help you at all only hurt. I have seen people in live games downing redbull after redbull and they do get to jittery and impatient. I do like to play against them. They are super aggressive most of the time and you just need to wait for a hand and you are good.

This post surely reminds me of my next door friend and neighbor. He passed away last May,mainly from drinking energy drinks. The autosy, the energy drinks were disolving his insides,on top of an obvious heart attack.
He was around 40,and stayed in shape.Really the last person you d think that would pass away. So,beware of energy drinks.!We sure miss him this time of your especially.

Maybe if you need to stay awake for long time, like if ur running deep in a tournament and you're tired, drink some energy drink and you stay alert again.
But if you have chance to sleep and you dont rly have to stay awake for a long time, go get some sleep and let your brains relax and get some rest.
;)

I try to avoid stimulants of any kind. I'm thinking my clearest when I have nothing in my system. The caffeine I don't mind as much as the sugar. Energy drinks are loaded with sugar, and way too much caffeine. If I'm getting tired, I leave. But if I'm playing a tournament or something and cant go, I drink coffee with just milk or cream and just sip it. The caffeine helps, but no crazy upswing from the sugar.

One can of an energy drink for those 5am morning sessions does wonders imo. Like its already been said, a small amount of caffeine to keep you alert is best. Just don't over do it.

I'm the same, always a full coffee or energy drink by my side to stay alert at all times when I play and I know it's bad but I really don't care, I love it!

In a similar vein to the posts above, if you are feeling tired, feel free to have a gulp or two of coffee or red bull. Don't pound the whole thing as it will speed up the neurons too much.

Unless you are feeling fatigued, there is no reason to drink energy drinks but if you want to, drink them incredibly sparingly.

Na red bull gives you wings .. ;)

But drinks are useless except for coffee & water (when needed).:withstupi

All energy drinks contain caffeine which, for the late night poker player, makes them very useful.

I drink Red Bull on ice the entire time I play live. I suppose it helps me focus because I get bored/ADD since I am seeing 35 hands an hour instead of 350. :D

I actually tried this and found the weed hampered my ability to take risks. When I get high, I do not respond well under pressure to perform.

On the flip side, I have found if I have one glass of red wine over the course of a tournament, I play better.

I mean, I'm sure there are people doing all kinds of shit. Just look at Stuey Ungar - the amount of cocaine this guy snorted up his nose is absolutely insane.

I highly recommend "One of a Kind" by Nolan Dalla and Peter Alson. The book just shows what can happen if you take the wrong path playing this game.

i drank one of those instant starbucks coffees the other day and stayed up til dawn bleeding out of my eyes and my heart feeling like it could run a marathon; but it wasn't concentrated energy or else i would've shot laser beams out of my eyes or psychokinetically scrubbed the bathroom floor

I have just decided to not play when I feel tired in any way. When I'm even the slightest bit tired I just spew off so much cash, it's like I just don't care. Then I wake up the next morning so pissed with myself.

So if I feel sleepiness coming on I just switch off the PC.

In some way energy drinks are good when you feel sleepy, maybe you can concentrate yourself better with this. I agree about use it sometimes but don't drink too much in one day.

I think this would make your game much better if and only if you are a person who 24 tables ring games or Sngs.

I don't know but caffeine is definitely good for long sessions in keeping you awake and alert. I drink a ton of caffeine while playing poker, not sure if it helps my game at all though.
