So this semester is finally wrapping up and I have only 1 more final to take (in class essay fml) and then I'm back home, just a short drive from the local casino and my favorite poker room. I've been playing online this whole semester but I really miss playing 1/2 live as I did all summer long.

Any solid advice on hitting the live tables after being away for 5 months? The only live action I've gotten is with my roommates and they are more of the "ship it and pray" kind of players.

Thanks to all you contributors here at CC, I've learned tons of information since joining!

I am going to the Borgata on the 23rd and cannot wait!

For advice, just play tight and aggressive. For me betting 10x the big blind with big hands preflop gets either no callers or 5 callers.

I had KK once, one guy raised to 20 preflop (1/2 table), I reraised 50, had 4 callers after me plus the original guy. Luckily they held up after I pushed when the flop hit (no Ace).

Anyways, just have patience and play tighter than you normally would. Once in a while there is a very tight table live, in that case, open the range a little.

Have fun

Live poker in a nutshell....

  • Play tight, and straight-forward for the most part.
  • Don't bluff in multi-way pots.
  • Don't slowplay big hands.
  • Take position seriously
  • Read about strategy before you go, such as: set-mining, SCs, preflop play, postflop, etc.
Live players are pretty bad. Identify how people play and their styles as soon as possible when you sit down.

And be patient. Have the control to wait for good hands. Don't play bingo and gamble like the rest of them.

And finally, these are just tips from me to you. There isn't really "cookie cutter" advice that applies to all situations. Every time you play poker, there are dynamics involved.

These are just some general tips that I thought of. Take my contributions with a grain of salt....

And lastly, GL to you.:D

Be careful

When you come back after awhile you tend to play more mediocre hands. make sure you stick to the premium hands

Thanks! I think my main problem this past summer was entering waaayyyy to many pots. Not at all being patient enough. I've came a long ways as a player since then so I'm anxious to hit the tables.

3 days left.. 3 days..:D

Cool tread. I can't wait to play live for the first time. Going to take a few cash outs to Tunica this spring. Cant wait. And I would guess playing on the weekend would be the best time?

I agree with this. You need to raise the limpers out of your hands at 1/2 make them pay to see flops. If you dont you are going to lose money to people that get lucky with rags.

Most definitely.. I think another downfall was that I was only buying in with the minimum.. So i was starting with $100 as opposed to everyone else buying in for $200-$300 giving them a little bit of leverage and giving them the ability to put me all in, in some very marginal situations.

I've learned so much since this last summer, My online play has increased drastically so I'm ready to see how much my live game has improved
