Okay everyone,

I am putting together a cash game and I am expecting 20-30 people. What would be a good chip amount to start with? $1500? $2000? $3000? I am planning on raising the blinds every 20min, no rebuys, we start at 8:00, and have until 2:30 to finish the game. Another dumb question is how do I break down the chip values (I have white, red, green, blue, and black chips.) so that it will even out the starting $ amount? Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Off the top of my head, something like this should give you about 5hrs play (really guestimating though)

2k chips to start
30 min levels

10/25
25/50
50/100
75/150
100/200
150/300
200/400
300/600
500/1000
600/1200
800/1600

White = 10
Red = 25
Green = 100
Blue = 500
Black = 1k

Give everyone something like 2 blue, 8 green, 6 red and 5 white to start. You can race away white chips after 1h, red after 2h and integrate the black chips if and when needed, or just start at 25/50 and leave the lowest denomination (10) chips out.

(By 'cash game' I assume you mean tournament? :p)

What Chris said, I play lots of these.

Expecpt, with 5K chips and 15 min blind levels, almost the same, but people "feel" they have more play for their money.

i remember my first home game well...
we were all new to it so i printed out a hand ranking chart for everyone (gives the game away if u have to ask what four kings is).
The way you sort yr chips is up to you, but i found it annoying to have every colour of chip on the table at once, your forever chipping up (getting rid of the lowest).
I have the same colours as you but i start with 10,000
20 reds (100 each)
6 Greens (500 each)
5 Blues (1000 each)

i use black for 5000 and white for 10,000 for when the blinds go that high, blinds start at 100/200.
If you like i can send you the blinds chart i made, its in excell.
