Evening stories from legendary Doyle Brunson.

Erroneous reasons to bluff
One of the things that can quickly destroy your bankroll is wrongly motivated bluff. Successful bluffing can be fun. But it can also be addictive. And I saw how addictive to bluff led the most magnificent players humiliation.

I remember the game in a private club in Texas, the feast of Corpus Christi in 1971. Then rarely met people who watch the game, but this time there were a few spectators - mostly familiar Kelly. She attended by his wife and a few friends. They rejoiced and clapped every time he wins the pot - in our time is common, due to the wide coverage of the big poker, but then it seemed strange.

We were playing no-limit hold'em, I had 5-6 suited before the opening of the flop. The pot was $ 330, and Kelly attacked them with a raise to $ 5,000. Of course, I folded. Kelly smirked and showed a weak hand - 9-8, earning applause from the fans. In such cases, it makes no sense to indulge his vanity by saying "you had the best hand," as it is apt to do many recreational players. Your opponent can hardly believe you, and you will not achieve anything, even if he believes. Just gather and wait. When players make Overbet to impress on people, let them succeed most of the time. When they fail, they will receive their full. Just wait for this moment.

Dangerous Road

I think that's the thrill of successfully bluffing the past makes the player again and again to follow this dangerous path. Riding on the narrow path on the edge of a cliff a stimulant effect. But one wrong move at the wrong time - and you are flying down the slope. Bluffing in poker is arranged in the same way.

An hour later, I put $ 2,000 a hand AK and was called by Kelly. The flop was great 4-AK, my top two pair. I made a small bet in the hope that Kelly will make a big bluff raise. That's what happened. In response to his raise to $ 12,000, I went all-in. Stunned and helpless, he was very pale. I had heard that expression - turned white as a sheet from the horror - but had never seen a player so pale while playing poker.

Kelly has not learned the necessary lesson: always let sanity, but never self-esteem, to be his guide. Seething with anger, he folded. Kelly demonstrated the first wrong motive for bluffing: Pride.

Gotcha

His composure weakened, and finally he drove himself to a standstill in the bank against another player. When it became clear that he could not win the pot, and still with a negligible amount of chips, he threw the remains of the stack in the pot, in a pathetic attempt to survive. He did not succeed in this.

Kelly demonstrate this second motive for the wrong bluff: Panic.

His wife left him in silence, his friends followed them at a distance, more than seemed necessary. It was pathetic care, and totally unnecessary.

Here are the three most common reasons why players are bluffing: Pride, panic benefit. Only benefit makes sense to me.

I have a favorite, and another hand, it is a double-bellibaster (gut-shot and two-way time) Street. This is one of the most deceptive of combinations, I especially love it when I play no-limit hold'em. Because of its deceptive nature, I almost always make her a raise, if you can win a big pot. It has all the advantages of bilateral straight. but it is not so easy to read. (Doyle Brunson "Super System)

If you're too conservative in poker or in life, you can not win big. You can evolve, but very slowly, and survive. But it's what you achieve. (Doyle Brunson)

You should not bluff if you have no chance to win the pot!
