I see this is a common place in online poker and is one of my pet hates really. How is it good for anyone to barate a fish and abuse him and tell him/her how bad they play or how bad they are? This most commonly occurs when a player receives a bad bad beat. However, you should be wanting people to call you down with 20% equity in a hand on a consistent basis. Sure sometimes despite how badly a player may of played his hand he will win and suckout but that's the nature of poker and there is nothing you can do about it. What is important is that you got your money in good and as profiting poker players we aim to put the odds in our favor as much as possible. . Just remember, in longrun these players will just end up giving the their money back to the poker community. If anything you should be praising a bad player for how good he plays and how badly you play and how lucky you are so they will continue to play the same way.

These players drive the poker economy and it is imperative that these players are treated like rock stars for their generous contributions to the poker community. Besides, the last thing we want as profiting players is these players to learn from there mistakes and work on becoming better players overall. Without these players online poker would be much harder to profit from and im sure none of the people who are already profiting want this to happen.

Extremely good post mate, and totally agree.

Unfortunately, not everyone can leave emotion at the door, and it's borne out of frustration, but you're dead right of course.

I'm even tempted to print this out, laminate it, and stick it on top of my monitor..

LOL

I 100% agree, I will never verbally abuse bad players, the more bad players on my table the better, now and again they will get lucky but I will just say nothing or at most NH and wait for a chance to get my money back, you certainly dont want to discourage them from playing, as MTT said they keep the poker economy going so long live fish, they are welcome on my table anytime and if they suck out once in a while ce la vie :D

It goes without saying in most cases, I tell myself this all the time as I'm sure most do too.

It's just one of those things, it sounds easier than it actually is for most people, which is also true to a degree.

Of course you want people to get their chips in bad, but sometimes it grates that much on you, you do say something just out of frustration.

Well when you find someone who does this you have found someone who does not understand poker. When you find someone who does not understand poker you have found someone you can exploit and make some money off of. Make a note.

I used to have a problem with this. I'm very creative with expletives when I'm angry. :p Doesn't happen anymore thankfully. Tilt isn't as much of an issue as it used to be for me but it does rear its ugly head now and again. Most of the time these days I just laugh off the sick beats I take.

Haha I totally agree, however I come across the opposite I've actually been berrated by the fish. Couple of examples I was SS at table with 1200 blinds 100/200 I was on button so anyway BB gets 5 callers so pot is litterally bigger than my stack. Clearly the table wanted to play bingo. With 5callers of BB to me what do I do with my SS and 52 suite I push. Everyone folds and I get one caller A3 I hit a 5 so actually end up tripling up here. Technically for all us who understand poker therom I am exsactly where I want to be All in with SS with 45% to triple up. Some fish who folded his marginal hand J 10, think he woulda hit a straight...starts to berrate me and it was endless. I mean how much of a horrible player I was and how he couldn't believe I sucked out. I of course didn't explain to the fish I was basically in a flip with the A3 guy. I also didn't explain how with 6 BBs left Im in a push situation and 52 suited is not my goto hand.....I've had someone tell me how bad of a player I am because I got them to fold there marginal hand 44s preflop and they would of hit quads on the turn....of course there hand was dominated when they folded it pre. This might just be my expierence but it seems to me Im not berrating the fish there berrating me.

My newest solution to this is to type all the trash talking I want into the chat box, let it sit there for a while, then erase it!

I also have been known to type the most awful things in their notes. ;)

Gets the frustration out without disturbing the fish or hurting my hand banging on my desk.

I have come across some old notes I had forgotten about and man are they funny. Makes me wonder just how angry I was when I wrote them.

+1 to not hitting the desk too. Funny trying to explain the bruises. Glad my anger issues have calmed.

i agree it's generally -EV ... altho sometimes a drunken bad player will rebuy several times trying to bust the loudmouth and it can be +EV for anyone at the table

finally, i think some enjoy trash talking as much as they enjoy poker

I agree its bad on many levels to criticize the fish at the tables. As its already been said its a good spot for you to make some notes. A note on the smack talker ... and one on the fish too.

I have a very hard time with this. Mainly when I am playing heads up and some ashole thinks "its only 0.10" and goes all in practically every hand.

I usually win anyway but it still pises me off to no end and I find it very hard not to rub it in their face.

Thanks for the post. I really need to work on this.

I am probably the only person who doesn't care about the tap the glass theory. I don't berate bad players but I really don't think it makes the slightest bit of difference if someone does.

They are bad because they don't learn, they don't learn because they don't listen, they don't listen because they don't care. Therefore nothing changes.

.

Fish can't hear.
I disagree, especially while sitting on cashgame tables. Some idiot starts bashing the fish on the table & how often do you see the fish get up & leave? Even if they don't, what good can possibly result from the bashing? I get pissed off when someone starts laying into the fish on the table in the chat.
