imo a fish is a new player who doesn't know any better and spews chips and a donk is an idiot who should know better and spews chips.

Fish=New player who calls with just about anything. More likely than not, believes it is all about luck. Shark=Experienced, plays their position and sets traps, etc.

It's the same exact player - the difference is :

The fish decides to shove with TJ against your pair of kings after a flop of K82 and you take all his money vaulting you to the final table with the chip lead.

The donk played the exact same hand the exact same way with the exact same flop (K82), BUT turns a Q and rivers a 9 for the straight, which cripples you, forcing you to shove ATC on the next hand, sending you to the rail on the bubble.

for me:
donk= aggressive poor player (bluffs too much)
fish= passive poor player (calling station)

Donks are harder to play against than fish.

Fish are ignorant.

Donkeys are stupid.

I'm either a Donktag or a Nitkey.

I like how you can use donk about yourself as a verb. Like, "I donked out 4xBB on this poor hand" (maybe it works better in my own language).

I therefore also think that you can distingusih the terms by level of experience and agression. E.g. some new player who calls too much, then folds, I don't think you would call him a donk, but you would certainly call him a fish.

So donk is the more agressive type who should know better.

Disclaimer: I have only played poker a short while.

Fish is a new player that would ask whats the diffrence and a donk is someone who plays bingo poker making bone headed plays for the quick payoff.

Donkeys play poker on land and the fish do it under water.

in my opinion donk are players who know rules and plays very bad and agresvily (and have so luck) fish are the players who have just know how to play poker and don't respect your raise and call everytime with botton peer and so on... iprefer fish players than donks

Donks are harder to play against than fish.

Thats the way I kinda label them.

Fish being more passive...limp calling 50%+ hands and calling you down with next to no equity.

Donk being the aggressive...raising alot of pots and pot sized donk bets post flop.
