I was recently playing the 9pm 5k guaranteed at UB. It's only a $1.10 to enter and had unlimited rebuys for the first half hour then a chance to double at the end of the period giving you 3000 or 6000 extra chips. The issue i have is (I've never read anything about this so forgive me if this is a documented strategy) there are always a few people at the table that constantly go all in w/ rags and have to rebuy several times, costing a buck a shot...so i've seen people rebuy like 8 times up to the end of the rebuy period. then at the end of the rebuy they double and ad 6000 more.
Heres my problem... technically when you act like that you're giving a ton of extra chips to your opponents, then at the end of the period, you have a few thousand chips, or less. Don't get me wrong...if you can actually make enough it wouldnt be that bad, but I always see these people having maybe 2-3000 chips at the end of the period add on the 6000 extra, which now makes the tournament cost you sometimes 10 bucks or more.
My strategy for the beginning is play only top hands and if they work, more chips for me, then at the very end of the rebuy period if I have less than 4500 chips, get totally wreckless and see if I can blast off or get crushed...still only costing me a buck. then right before the rebuy period ends get a double rebuy (you must have 1500 or less to rebuy) or if I bust out buy a single for 1500 then a double bringing me to 4500, then add on the double at the break giving me 10500 chips, only costing an additional 4-5 bucks, and not donating a ton of extra chips to my opponents. I always see these crazy players rebuy after wreckless rebuy then at the end of the period have 2-3000 chips (which means you can't use the rebuys cause you have more than the 1500) then only being able to add the double at the end. So what cost me 5-6 dollars costs them 10+ and they still have less chips coming back from the break. Does this make sense to anyone else.
If this helps you out, then great, or if anyone has any opinions on the matter, I would like to hear them
