Usually when you have problem with instant facial expression from reaction, definitely it helps if you haven't master the stoic look.

I have not tried wearing sun glasses when I play live poker, but I do like to wear a baseball cap low on my head just above my eyes.

I dont wear sunglasses when I play live. My eyes are bad enough that if i wear glasses it's my reading glasses.
I will say that the one reason I would wear them wouldnt be to hide my tells but rather I dont want someone else to know Im studying his tells.

I don't wear them. I wouldn't mind trying them. I have been accused of staring people down when I'm not in a hand. I honestly don't even notice that I do it. I'm just trying to figure someone out. I will say that my eye sight is terrible so it would definitely not help much.

I don't wear any.

Also tried wearing some special glasses for online play... didn't like them either.

I've never played live poker, but it feels weird watching tournaments on TV,internet where many people wear sunglasses at one table.Just imagine if a poker tournament looked like this:

I think sunglasses is more good to the style but for the game play is does not matter because the opponents are not so good to get the tells at the table

nope

I tried wearing sunglasses a few time, and let's just say it didn't work out to well. I kept having to lift them up to see the cards. Yeah so I just took them off eventually. Just a waste of time. Leaving them on I could easily think I had a flush when I didn't. Yeah so wearing them for me at least is not good.

I never wear shades at the table and usually harass the ones that do lol. I'll say are you staring at me and stick my tongue out or say man it's bright in here. Or if I'm really feeling froggy say I think players who wear them look stupid. It usually gets them to remove them.
But I think tells don't come from the eyes as much as they do the body anyways. The looking down at chips being the most common meaning they hit the flop and want to bet. But a good player knows this and will do it to avoid a bet. I stick to playing the player.

Hello,

If it makes you feel better it helps. I don't always have them on because sometimes I play with people I know well and the game is socially active. If I am grinding in an MTT then I wear them and have music on and it's like puting on blinders in a horse race. You see people with hoods on and I totally get it. It's not about hiding your eyes or your face so people can't see you it's about you not seeing hearing or allowing them to influence your game in anyway. It's why we play online.

I used to wear them when I first played, and when I played the wsop M.E this summer I wore them for day 1.

My thoughts are:

Wearing them makes you feel "safer"? I guess in a way. Its fun to be able to stare at people without them knowing you're looking.

You can do whatever you want with your eyes while the cards are out and they don't see what the heck you are looking at.

What I don't like is how its just darker in general, and may put more stress on my eyes starring. Also sometimes you get the wrong rep for wearing them (i.e. they may think you are SUPER tight and never pay you off, or think you are a fish and constantly come at you)

What I enjoy about not wearing them is its more intimidating and direct looking at someone. Especially when you have a shaved head like me :p

I have used sunglasses and have not, you can get tells from any part of the body, the way they act, so for me wearing sunglasses is useless unless you are playing outside and it is sunny. There are those that swear by the sunglasses that if they can not see their eyes they have the advantage. For some it works for some it does not.. I do not ever wear sunglasses...

I never wear them, even at the beach. I wear my regular glasses to play cards though. My eyesight was poor as a kid and has not improved with age. The tint makes it harder to read the cards and my naturally squinty saggy baggy eyes don;t give away much (I hope).

Yes I wear sunglasses. I do think it helps. It you stare at a person long enough they don't act natural. If you stare at a person with sunglasses they will act natural, because they don't know/think UR looking at them.

You made a lot of valid points. I remember play 7-card stud and I had wired jacks and when an opponent got my jack I stared at it for a while & another opponent noticed it. He asked me if he guessed my down cards if I would tell him so he said pocket jacks and I was astonished. He told me I was staring at that jack when it went to my opponent. Sunglasses would've definitely prevented me from projecting that tell.

I also liked your point on nobody knows where your eyes are looking. I stare at people waiting for a reaction. If I was not wearing sunglasses they would act weird/not natural, but because I'm wearing glasses they have no idea I'm staring at them so they act natural & all their expressions/tells are natural.

I remember Daniel Negreanu once said he would like it at final tables if you couldn't wear sunglasses, although he said he knows that would NEVER be a rule. He thinks it is NOT a welcoming site & is quite intimidating to the casual player to see someone not talking & with sunglasses on.
