In my country (Peru) I have a lot of friends who are under 18 and play poker creating false accounts in pokerstars ... I think it is a game that anyone should play but I respect that by terms and conditions they are prohibited

probably officially to play is prohibited in all countries.
Is it possible to change the forbidden rules?
each country can decide in its own way. :)

Poker could be a useful teaching tool in math classes, provided the kids are not using real money. That gets into a lot of legal issues.

Should be 18 in all states (in the US, don't know too many international gambling laws)!

Since the question is about the game of poker -- not gambling, I don't think there's anything wrong with children learning poker at home as a family card game with no money used -- only chips for the pride of winning, like any family game.

I think it's a good learning exercise if approached in the right way with the potential to teach and reinforce lots of personal and practical skills, as well as setting up opportunities for more bonding.

I play poker with my kids, 12 , 10 and 10. Without the gambling part. Gamblings not really a healthy habit. I gambled as a kid with hockey cards and candy.

Read OP a bit more carefully..... OP was talking about an account at Pokerstars. Not just "the game of poker".

Excuse me? The OP asked the question, "Do you think poker should be suitable for minors?"

I answered the question as it was asked. The the OP included his thoughts about people under 18 opening accounts at PS in his content, but why is it assumed those are real cash accounts and not for play money? The word "gambling" is not mentioned even once by the OP.

You are certainly welcome to give your opinions about minors gambling or make assumptions about the question to include gambling, even though it was never mentioned. At the same time, I have the right (hopefully without complaint from anyone) to answer the question JUST as it was asked to point out that I feel a friendly game of family poker is a good thing.

I AM sorry if you fell my comment was aimed at you. I had to go back to see why you chose to criticize me then noticed your comment about minors gambling in the post preceding mine. Perhaps YOU should read the question more carefully.

Should gambling for money be legal for people under 18... definitely not.
Should we ban kids from playing poker outright... also definitely not.

I have chaperoned a lot of school trips where students play poker with phone calculators as their stack and they don't quite understand the game well enough, but they have a lot of fun.

For fun on one trip, I joined their game and unsurprisingly demolished them and simply explained that I was able to figure out what they had and if they were bluffing using logic.

For example, it is hard to represent certain cards on the turn or river if you didn't bet like you had those cards pre-flop or on the flop. It is a really good tool for teaching deduction, in my opinion and I noticed the kids become smarter towards the end of the trip.

Poker its not really gambling.
Spotsbooks and casino games are.
And I would have my doughts on Sportbooks but we will leave that discution for later.
The point here its that minor should be allowed to play poker but not for real money, Because thousands of reasons mainly if a minor start losings control and start depositing every time he loseses and becaue its a boy he wont have the bankroll education or even game knowledge of what hes doing.
Parents would be able to ask refunds and demanding and well maybe that couple of reasons are enough to prove that minors should be allowed to play poker for REAL MONEY.
How ever Im completly agree to allow them to play poker with play money/points because poker its way diferent than gambling.

The majority of teenagers are not prepared to control stress or the emotional management that losing or making money means, due to the fact that they are teenagers and are full of hormones; I do not recommend it.

Yes, he said "suitable for minors" in his title, and then went on to explain that he was talking about pokerstars accounts, so why in the world you would assume minors would be happy being able to deposit and gamble, but wouldnt??? No, he did not specifically mention the word "gamble" but he DID say "account at pokerstars".. Hmmm, no relation between the two for you?. So, in the English language at least, context is important. Its all there, and to be a bit of a jerk like you just were, "Perhaps YOU should read the question more carefully."

So, to make my stance very clear, and to avoid any more silly discussion, cards for kids? Sure. Gambling (and, yes, poker IS gambling)? No.

OP below........ Not sure why I need to post it again, but hey....

We don't need minors in poker. They haven't let go of the computer since they were born, along with their mother's boob. They will beat us.

...and to be a bit of a jerk like you...
/QUOTE]

I do not think there's any need to make personal insults. Discussing a question is one thing but that wasn't necessary.

You decided that "(and, yes, poker IS gambling)" to quote you exactly, and I disagree. Poker is a game and gambling entails risking the loss of something. I can gamble about virtually everything but not everything is gambling. I can play many games and make gambling part of them or just use tokens for fun.

You clearly disagree but please do it without getting directly personal.

Poker: Gambling? I didnt decide anything. I have a very strong leaning. You just want to attack back, ok, I guess.... From an article exploring if poker is gambling:

Semantically, 'yes' because poker, like most other activities involves taking risks for possible ultimate reward.
Legally, the answer used to be 'yes' but slowly it is becoming 'no.'
Pragmatically, 'yes' and 'no' depending on the player's ability to exploit the inherent flexibility in the game.

Giving minors the opportunity to play for money on a website (OP explicitly said kids with accounts on pokerstars and did not say only play money) is not a great idea.
And if you dont want personal replies, refrain from such personal statement as"Perhaps YOU should read the question more carefully." cause it sure sounded like an unnecessary personal-attack-way to phase your thought...... If you meant it nicely....., then sorry. It didnt look that way.

I have no problem with any replies that disagree with my opinion, I only have a problem when someone calls me a "jerk" or other such needless derogatory terms. I completely disagree with some of what you are saying, but I can easily refrain from labeling it or you in nasty way, and I will conclude this by only asking you to do the same.

Quite a difficult question, but I am more inclined to believe that only adults can play poker. It is best not to violate the laws and rules of poker sites.

I don't think young people are mentally prepared to handle poker, handling money, a bankroll, and with what money do you play, your parents ?

Minors must not play gambling, especially since there is a ban up to 18 years. In order to play for money you need to have an income.

There are internet sites where you can play with friends and you learn, there is little point in opening false accounts because in the future it may affect you when you are old and want to play on the poker site.:star::star::star::star:
