I'm not good at poker myself, so I wouldn't know where to start, what to look for and when to do it.

But, do you create tags/labels on players and write down notes?

In what situations, what you looking for and how you use that information on the future?

If you use a HUD it does it automatically so much people online aren't actively writing stuff down for this. If you are just writing just watch the players and note some of the key details:

Are they playing a lot of hands?

Are they raising a lot preflop or just limping in?

What do they do when 3bet (do they 4bet or fold everytime)?

How aggressive are they post flop (big raises, check-raising a lot, CB or are the check-calling/folding a lot)?

if the hands get to showdown you can take what they did for a given hand and apply a range to it, so if they play like that again you can start to tell what cards they might have.

Hope that helps

If I'm playing for money and I see a player a lot in Sit-n-Gos or at cash games I will tag them about their playing styles, if they're big trash talkers, and when I make a friend..

I tag people mostly the ones that will call with anything, like they call a big raise with 2-3 or 4-7 I mark then as donkeys and i dont fear there call as much when i raise. Could they have a hand yes but the odds are no.

yes i tag players, to aid in future game selection, and take notes, to enable myself to make better decisions.

typical tags :

fish, whale, tight reg, lag reg, tight passive reg

then when I am joining tables I look for those which are mostly fishes and whales

I often label by color and a brief annotation on the style of play he represents.

I have reduced my labelling to one label "slowplays severely"

This is a player who fails to raise for something like a KK or ace high flush hit and stuff. They literally sit there waiting for you to fall into their traps. this is the only player I label anymore. All others are obvious from HUD stats.

of course, in the forum there is a topic that I created very good talking about it, I explain why you should make notes of the players .. I believe that to be a good player the first step to this, jotting down information of your villains, gives a great advantage over them.

Tagging players is a great way to gain helpful information for the later stages of the game. It can also subdue boredom as it allows for something to focus on within the game to constructively use time that is otherwise wasted after folding. It's always a good idea to pay attention to every player, every hand, every game.

Of course, if you want to play poker serious, you need to use special programs and "tag" the players. If you play just for fun after your job or maybe prefer to play freeroll games you just can play the game and don,t care about that.

usually I do not use the tags, because I am amateur and tournaments are fast but I watch my opponents closely

No, because there are several players in a tournament. Good players always vary their style of play during the tournament, they are unpredictable!

One should only use this kind of method face to face.
