Do you remember how poker was at the beginning? I started playing in 2005 and with nostalgia I remember those times on the one hand and with bitterness on the other hand, when I think that I could solve financial problems for life, then I have the knowledge that I have now.

I started playing poker at the same time - 2005. No knowledge. No skill. No luck. No bankroll. Today I have advanced beyond those humble beginnings. Much of the knowledge I acquired I have forgotten. Any skill I developed is barely hanging on. Luck is running just about the same. And my bankroll is now negative. But, I am having fun. As a senior citizen, you gotta have something to keep you busy.

I started playing poker around the same time 2004. I have never deposited to this day on any poker sites. I still play about three to six hours a day, two or three days a week. Yes it seems the game has changed a lot compared to back then. I have a few bank rolls on the sites I play on. I have reached almost all of my poker goals I had set back at that time when I started playing. I wanted to play in a wsop bracelet event. I won a WSOP package back in 2009 for the 2010 season. I cashed in that bracelet event and in my next event. Another goal was to win a bracelet, I haven't reach that one yet, my best finish so far is 16th place. I wish Black Friday would have never happened. That slowed me down like a lot of Americans that were doing good on FTP and PS.

Not sure exactly when I started playing in earnest, maybe five years ago. I do remember having better luck back then. Not sure why that would be - maybe because I had little idea of what I was doing, so any win was solely due to luck. ** Hey, I think I just described how to play a freeroll! **

The old strategy has gone down in history. Now a lot of aggressive players.

i try not to dwell on the past, the "glory days" of anything are often overrated.

In my opinion to focus on what was good "then or now" is just a quite negative way of thinking when it comes to your personal improvements on your play. Of course the environment changes but you have to be willing to commit to the change if you are really ad emit about poker becoming a useful financial gain. If you simply play for fun than so be it and enjoy.

It sounds like most people here are agreeing with what is stated above and the ones who have viewed this thread I think can relate to what I am saying. To put it simply, if the weather changes from hot to cold; will you still wear a tank top, or will you adapt and put on a sweater and go after those stacks?

There was always a ton of Sit-N-Go action on Full Tilt 2009 circa. Loved it.

I started playing in 2014. freerolls became less. Rakeback was cut. Poker rooms were like a casino, win hard.

Yes I remember it. The sit&go action was like now the spin&go action. You could get 75% rakeback on ongame network. You can easily built a bankroll by freerolls. The action was fast the poker softwares were fast. Ton of networks, rooms, deals. In 2007 I raked a brand new laptop, several ipods, a monitor. So many great promotions. The rooms seeked the multi table, high raking players and rewarded them. :(

Back in those days players were BAD. I mean call to the river with nothing BAD. It was like printing money.

This was before strategy was easily available. People just saw the bluffs on TV and tried to emulate it with no rhyme or reason. Now people are light years better than they were in 2002-2006. Those were the golden years of online poker. Too bad I was a poor boy just out of school and unable to really capitalize on it.

You see it today occasionally but back then you would have tables full of these players. There were also many more players playing online in general. I remember having 5k plus people in a mtt and that being nothing. Big paydays for small buyins. I won $400+ in a $1 tournament and that was for 4th place.

I mean, I wasn't hardly able to play for real money at all in my "old days" so I don't really miss them.

I remember how I got hooked. The first tournament that I won got me hooked for life. I was shaking so badly toward the end of the tournament that I actually had to have someone from the floor put my chips in for me. The funny part was is that I was at a bar playing and all you could win was a 20 bar tab and an invite to a later tournament.

So why does it not evolve for the better?
Why does everything have to get worse?
I can't forget the past and the Good Old Days of Poker.

I always thought if on line poker gets re-approved in the whole USA, poker will draw in more people and grow, not like before, but see a material growth in new players.

I play poker for about a year, so I do not know what it was before. But whatever he was, he still likes me a lot.
