I prefer TOurnaments every day in the week. It's like day and night, i really cant understand how anyone can appreciate cashgames, the thrill in tournaments when u get to the finaltable and double up.

The nits gets there ass beaten, because the blinds go up, in cashgames the nits just wait and wait and beat you with higher set... and u are down and need to grind up again, at that point i tend to tilt. In a tournament i get just as mad but i am out and there is not much i can do about it.

If poker was only cashgames i would be out of it. I can win a tournament and be 100dollar up in a day, but at 10NL (my level at CG) i get like 10dollars in the best of days.

Tournaments or Cashgames and why? (u cashgames guys have to explain extra hard why you prefer cashgames before tournaments:D )

I like the grind of cash game.. To me it takes alot of the variance of a tournament out.. Its alot easier to win a tournament if you get a string of good cards but in a cash game you really need to play good solid poker for a long period of time to come out on top... in a tournament some donkey can hit his 2 outer on to knock you out and thats it your done.. but in a cash game i reload and stack that same donkey by the end of the session..

I used to like tournaments way more but lately I have been playing cash quite successfully. Cash allows me to relax more and get better reads on my opponents play than i would if blinds were increasing and I was randomly getting moved to tables of new players. I also make better decisions with my chips because they represent my actual money and potential profit, and also there aren't as many donk shoves as there are in tournaments. With that being said, the rush of a final table is still a great experience and I will continue to play tournaments every once in a while.

Hard to choose between the two. I've won more money in tournaments, but cash games as a whole have more skill involved, which I like. If I had to choose just one though it would probably be tournaments.

lol im kind of the same way with the nightly tourney at the casino i play at.. its a $55 tourney so if im winning that amount or more in a cash game i make the decision wether or not to play it.. I guess it comes from the idea "its free money" so i dont feel bad risking it on something im not AS good at

I can't really understand why i am so bad at cashgames compared to Tournaments. I can beat NL10 but then i will die of boredom sooner or later.
And sooner or later i just tilt and lose, so well i can't win but i am able well... lol

Tournaments is great for me. THe latest weeks i have been winning like 700dollar on tournaments and then i mostly play at weekends, i will NEVER win that much on CG, and if i would be able to i would need to go up or grind NL10 like for years or atleast some damn long time. And the cost to learn to beat the higher limits before i can crush them and cash out from them is not worth it, if i am able to do it at all...

I love tournaments and hope i never get tired of them, because when i do i have to quit playing poker.

LIke this weekend, i played HU and NL10 and lost pretty much, more than i have done for a long while, and now i played a tournament and won 123dollars, just like that!!

And i have been through a downswing in my tournamentplay.. it was damn hard to keep play but i managed to cut the loses.

SO TOURNAMENTS IS FOR PEOPLE WITH HEART!! u have to be kind of nuts to like CG.
Look at Hellmuth, he is a nice crazy dude.
ANd look at Phil Ivey, he is just sooo boring.

Do you know that there are Cash Games running all the time that crush Tournament pools 3 fold and far less luck factor involved to win?

If this is the case than you should try moving up the stakes in a cash game your BR allows you to play bigger games than 10nl maybe youll find it less boring at higher stakes

if that is your mentality than you should def stick to tournaments... .. i mean the same basic principles go into cash games as tourney but strategies differ.. but if you feel its -ev to play cash games than cut them out all together no sense putting yourself in a bad position

Cash games have less variance than tourneys. Players can go a couple of hundred tourneys between deep runs. Either way to avoid really bad variance mass hands are required, most people find this much easier in cash games where decisions are simpler when multi-tabling. Also a tourny can take 8-10 hours to complete whereas a cash grind is flexible.

When I first started playing online (after many years of playing live both cash and tourneys mostly cash though). I played just tournements online that was it i was a little nitty but managed to cash at a rate i was content with. I was extremely patient and did not mind playing for hours with little break in fear that when i got up I would miss the hand that could be a gamechanger. However I am not that paitient anymore dont get me wrong Im patieint enough to wait for a decent hand/position/situation to play but I like the idea of just pausing a screenfull of games and get up and do what ever i want make a sammich take the dog for a quick walk whatever and than can sit back down and leave off where I left. You dont have to play for hours on end to profit from play. Tournments there is no guarantee if you run into variance and get knocked out you are SOAL However if you have variance in ringgame just buy back in and keep going knowing that it was just that variance or a bad read and 5 mins later you can be right back where you were and making profit again.. In other words I like cash games better. Tournments are fun for me I play tournaments for fun becaus I will only play one or two games at a time , which to me is just relaxing as opposed to online cash where at times I may have a screen full although im old so I dont usually play more than about 4 at a time not like some of these whippersnappers have no desire to play that many. . I hadn/t played cash games other than live but am looking to get back into it since i was recently layed off of work. No big plans but a few extra bux . a month will help out However I will always love playing live cash and intend on doing that more than I had been. Also with a cash game live or online there is always new idiots sitting down at the table.

I always have been a tournament player... I like to play cash but only when I know i'm on top of my game... it's a totally diff. beast. i prefer to play PLO cash and razz rather than hold'em because I feel I'm better than most of the competition. I'm trying to freeroll up some cash to get to the tables, these freerolls are a bitch!

I'd say I prefer tournaments to cash games, online anyway. Like someone stated above, I do well in the cash games for a while, then right when I'm about ready to leave the table I will get coolered and lose a huge chunk of my stack. When it comes to live play, I prefer cash games because I'm familiar with most of the regular players and how they play. I've never taken a big loss in a live cash game. Whichever you prefer, you must acknowledge the risk vs. rewards benifits of tournaments.

I love tournaments way more than a cash game. I seem to make a lot more money playing in tournaments, and the feeling of being on or winning that final table is unbeatable in my opinion.

cash or tournaments.. HOW ABOUT BOTH?
Both had advantages and disadvantages.
I think tournaments are a great learning tool... It forces your to play in situations that you dont and/or wont play in a cash games. Playing short stack in a very loose table. Playing short stack in a tight table. being at a table with a bunch of people that are deep stacked except you.
However a disadvantage of tournaments is time. You cant really quit when you want to. (unless you just blinch yourself off) as long as you have chips you have to play. not even if you become not feeling well, tired, hungry, thiristy, visitors, a phone call, family emegency, etc. In a cash game you can leave anytime and really dont need an excuse.
I feel you can make more money at a cash game but if you are a beginning player you can lose more money and would be cheaper to get in tournament to help you learn the game.Overall I think you need to do both to become a better poker player.. Both have advantages and disadvantages.

I like them both. On line the tournaments work better for me. But live I seem to do better at cash. I hate playing in a big tourny for 3-4 hours to be knocked out on the bubble. If I play 4 hours at a casino at a cash game I am usually up. That's when I take my chips to the cage.

Most of my profit comes from playing tournaments - most of my practiced skills come from playing cash.

And I agree - a cash player can tourney but tourney player will mess it up at the cash table.
