Playing in big fields or little fields. Logically its better to play in small fields as you've more chance of making the money. But if you're playing it right. Overtime you'll make the money regardless, so is it better to do that in the popular events, to have a better chance of making big money?

Also, do you prefer playing good or awful players. People say playing good players is better as bad players are unpredictable and unreadable. But! Surely without bad players it wouldn't be possible to make profit. Good players would just be swapping money back and forth. But when you get 5 bad beats from bad players. It's easy to say get rid.of them!

What do you think?

Sure one will cash more in smaller fields. However, the EV is usually better in larger fields (more dead money). Thus, as long as one has the proper bankroll and the proper mental temperament for winning whatever percentage of the time a particular type of tournament will garner then :)

As a poker player looking to make money, one will always want to play with the worst players. If they suck out, they suck out... getting your money in good is what matters in the long run.

If one is striving to improve their game then playing with good players can have some value as long as one studies in depth the players they are playing against/the lessons they are paying for...

Yeah. I pretty much agree with all of that. I don't quite have the patience with the bigger fields. Which is a flaw of mine. I tend to feed off momentum. I should be consistent regardless.

I usually prefer to play in the guarantee tournaments.
So live they usually tend to be a high field of players ,but after you qualify there is not to many usually for final day.
And It depends on the situation whether i prefer to play good solid players or awful ones.
If it is short handed play or even heads up I will take a awful players weakness and eat them alive.
I would rather play solid decent players on an average though. no limping 10/3 os oop bull crap lol.

I actually like both. Sometimes like mentioned above, I am not feeling very patient on the day and prefer the smaller fields. You can get a large chip up early and kind of sit. In larger fields, you have to "play" more because the blinds witll catch up and you cannot simply cost. If I had to pick one I woul pick the larger fields.

I like a tourney to have at least 100 players. More is cool. I tend to cash more regularly in the larger tourneys. Whereas in small tourneys, say 30 players or less, I seem to do good until we start getting close to the money. Then some "unconventional" player will bluff-jam into a my big pair and catch running cards, three hands in a row, or some other craziness like that. The larger the field, the more chance I have to distance myself from the smaller stacks before reaching the money bubble.

As far as players go, I generally prefer to play against better players. The worst players always seem to be the luckiest. But in actuality, it takes all kinds. Someone has to double me up early with an all-in bluff. Good players are needed to win pots from bad players and consilidate the chips in one spot for me. Whether they admit it or not, good players sometimes have a habit of playing so "by the book" that they become predictable. They get mad and call you names when you pick off their moves without stopping to consider that you may have read those books too. The best players will know how to switch it up to keep from becoming predictable. Those are the ones that will be there in the end. You need them to give you that sense of satisfaction at having actually achieved something when you win.
