My question is this, when you are in a tournament do you play aggresive to take an early chip count, or do you play tight and wait for a good hand to be dealt to you?

Loose is the opposite of tight. It is possible to be both tight and aggressive.

Early I try to play tight and play my strong hand aggressive. I like to see lots of cheap flops with sc and pp in decent position.

Never go all in with just 1 pair unless kk or aa preflop

I play tight and aggressive initially, but if I find it's a particularly tight table I will loosen my range a little. I'm talking about tournaments here, incidentally.

It depends for me on what kind of players are at the table. I play low stakes so I play tight early cuz the play is rather loose, play my strong hands and get doubled up by the idiots.

You have to know your opponents and adapt. You also have to play your position. There's really no right answer, just a general overview. I will take a stab at a pot if I think I can win it.

aggressive or tight

It depends on the table but usually aggressive expecially in freerolls. Try and get the donks out of the way.

I play tight threw most the tourney, and start loosening up when I have an above average stack and start bullying the table and stealing pots from the blinds and button. :)

If its a rebuy tourney I play super tight, i only make big raises pre flop with AA-QQ or AK, limp call with other pocket pairs and suited connectors in position and if I flop big I usually get paid off because people play like idiots during the rebuy period. Regular tourneys I play pretty loose aggressive, but only when I'm in position. Depends on starting stacks as well, if the stacks are smaller I'll play tighter.

I find it is always situational, meaning how is the table, but with being moved or having new players come randomly, you just have to take things as they come. My rule of thumb is, play position first and foremost, I always play my strong hands strait forward at the beginning, NEVER slowplay a monster in early stage. I am only aggresive with big hands, and if I limp small pp or sc I will usually bow down to a show of strength (unless I have a good read that tells me otherwise). Like I said, situational, if I have a read, I will vary my play accordingly. But playing blind, I will be tight unless I have the nutz.

I change my style up quite a bit, depending on my situation and my opponents at the table.

I usually play tight early on and use pot control as i dont want to be leaving myself in position that the pot has grown so much that i am committed with a non nuts hand...If table doesnt break and i have shown down good hands i will after a while use that image to start nicking a few blinds and 3 betting mid position raisers..later on nearer the cash bubble i loosen up but when i have 15-20bb i will only open the betting with the view i am shoving any action..table dynamics determine my actions most times

Both... Tight to antes then get very aggressive til final table then tighten right up.

But it also depends on table... If I can control the table.

To many variables to a game to define the way I play.

I'm not really sure, I used to play tight early on but now I try to take a look at cheap flops early with position. Suited connectors and set mining. I'd rather be comfortable heading into the bubble than struggling the whole way to stay afloat. Sometimes though there are too many aggressive loose players at lower limits so I will wait them out.

I play tight aggressive until I see how my opponents are playing.

Tight and aggressive early stages. Change it up during the later stages depending on how the table is playing. If the table is super tight I'll widen my range of hands. If the chips are flying on the table I'll keep it TAG.

I play TA for as long as I can. By the time I get around to what I think is a good time to make a move for all my stack, some donk will risk half or 3/4 of their stack with a small PP or ace rag or kq and POOF! By some power of donk magic I get knocked out!

i would love to say it depends on the table, but i have a bad habit of being loose/aggressive, i like to see a lot of hands.
sometimes i play better and it's tight and aggressive that's the best way to play if you can be patient enough. and better then that would be good sound fundamental poker. ;) :proud:

For the the most part tight early. Depends on my mood but I like to think I am patient early. I do have a issue I am working on when to switch gears later...near the end to bring it home.

Both... you're supposed to play tight, but when you get good hands you play them aggressively... fold your bad hands and constantly raise your good hands, do not try and slowplay.

In a MTT (Really depends on how many people, let's say 300+), I'll play super tight preflop and super aggressive post flop. Most of the time I'll make myself pot-committed on the flop.

Preflop I limit my raising hand range from JJ-AA.
I'll limp or call a small raise from middle-late position with any PP.
If there are a couple of limpers I'll limp with suited connectors on the button. If there are no limpers, I would just muck. With those limpers I would assume BB or SB would be afraid to raise with any PP JJ- or AQ+ because of a trap.

If the flop gives me an over pair with JJ+ I would commit myself.
If I don't hit a set with PP and don't have top pair I would muck.
If I don't hit a 9+ out draw that would give me a monster hand I would muck my suited connectors.

This is just general.

Most player would agree to a tight aggressive style.

Tight passive will lose you lot of money in the long run.
